    The Adventure Continues

Nice find Gary! I've always really liked the Commander series and this one looks really good. Double doors are definitely nice. :) Cheers, Brian

    Changing N Number

Here's the link to the FAA website that tells you how to do it. I can send you a word document for the letter I sent in to OKC for the approval if you want it as an example. I forgot how many days you have to get the AW certificate updated through the FSDO and new numbers applied, but it was a...

    VFR on top to IFR

Just means your assigned altitude (8,000) versus a block altitude (8-12,000) where you have leeway to move freely up and down the block. See EdFred's example for why it would be handy. I got block altitudes all the time out west flying between Reno and Salt Lake City when I couldn't maintain...

    Stratus 3 question

My Stratus 3 is remotely located in the nose baggage compartment. There is a power source up there and external antenna extensions, so it comes on and shuts off with the battery switch. I never worry about it unless my iPad shows it not being on for some reason. Cheers, Brian

    New Garmin Avionics 3/25/19

No G3X love for the light twin market though...only available for singles below 6,000 GTW and 6 seats or less..... :( Brian

    Headset pleasesss!

If you are close to Pacific Coast Avionics in Aurora, OR they have a full headset "booth" where you can try on all the big manufacturers except the in-the-ear variants. Probably won't have an issue with heat build up out there or it will be limited, but depends on which part of Oregon you're...

    Headset pleasesss!

Some more info about your flying would help, like where are you, how hot does it get in the summer where you fly, can you wear ear plugs, etc. If you can make it to any of the bigger shops, most have displays of all their headsets so you can try them on. If you don't have issues wearing ear...

    PIREP: Dynon DRX

I've got one and it worked great up until this weekend (purchased back in January). For whatever reason it stopped working mid-flight and I couldn't get the unit to shut down or reset, so had to wait for it to run out of battery. Dynon has been great with tech support and I'm supposed to send...

    St. Maartin, Whose been?

P.S. I'll be there in December - also taking a cruise so watching this for some insight as well.... :)

    St. Maartin, Whose been?

If I remember correctly, the KLM flight was on Tuesday's and they were the last B747 operator in St. Maarten. That service stopped in 2016 and it has been replaced with an A330 - which is still a big plane though... :rolleyes...

    Insurance rates

Travers & Associates out of Saint Louis. I've been with them for almost a decade and this is my third aircraft while using them. They have no issues looking or even switching underwriters as needed to find the best solution, at least that has been my experience with them. Never had a claim...

    Insurance rates

You need a new agent. o_O I just got insurance for a Travel Air in January and the rate was $2195 for the year with $65K hull coverage and the normal $1MM limits. I had zero time in type and only 20 hours multi. My agent said he expects it to come down a little next year with more time in...

Hold short, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold ...

Never seen an IO360 get carb ice before...fouled plugs from a rich mixture while sitting there that long for sure...:) Or was that just a general statement for carb engines... ;)

I got a quote for replacing my KT76A with the Stratus ESG - $4.6K all in. Brian

    Favorite super bowl commercial?

For me: #1 - Amazon with Harrison Ford (I'm speculating, but bet that is Carrie Fisher's French Bulldog....) "I'm not talking to you" #2 - Audi commercial seeing the light and being heimlicked back from the dead... #3 - Bud Light jousting arena getting roasted by the GoT Dragon

    For Bonanza owners.

Aircraft and AD's are like fingerprints - they're all different. My previous E33A had 4 recurring AD's that were applicable to my specific airframe (two 100 hr inspections and two 500 hour inspections), while my current Travel Air has 3 and two of them are the same as my previous Bo. Every...

    Folding Bikes?

I just got these EuroMini's for us a couple weeks ago and rode them around Niagara Falls for a couple of days. Very easy and the 8 speeds made small hills pretty easy to climb. They are light and I can fit three in a row in the back of the Bonanza. Weight penalty for the three = 72 pounds...

    Private Plane

I don't believe it will become an AD, but I could be wrong on that. AOPA and ABS have already started working on this effort to keep it as an MSB or at least reword the poorly written CMI version to say "replace at next overhaul" only. Even if it does manage to slip through, there are ways to...

Broke my iPad - replace with Mini?

No. I have the Wi-Fi only Mini iPad and use a Stratus 2 with FlyQ EFB. If I need cellular service, I just hot spot my iPhone. Cheers, Brian
