Tim, Which Aerostar did you have and what do think would be the maintenance cost difference between the pressurized and unpressurized versions? I'm assuming they both burn about the same fuel. Always wondered what the additional cost for upkeep was on pressurized birds. Thanks, Brian

Oh, I totally agree. I got really lucky in finding my Travel Air. I looked for almost 3 years and it took a friend transferring outside the country for 5 years to finally get one (it might go back to him when he gets back....maybe...;)). I really can't believe how much the Baron's have gone...

If you join Beechtalk.com and do a quick intro with what you are looking at doing, you might be able to find an owner that is close by that would be happy to give you a ride in their A36 or B36TC. I'd imagine the other owner specific groups would be able to do the same. Would be a lot cheaper...

The shop I used in Virginia is now scheduling for Mar/Apr of 2020 - he didn't raise his prices, so maybe that's an anomaly. He's booked solid and even if he wanted to expand, he can't find qualified folks to hire....I just got mine done last week and even that was scheduled back in February...

James, I use Air Power, Inc to get a feel for the cost of an overhauled, factory rebuilt, and new engine. Add about 10-15% to those prices to account for the R&R by the shop or mechanic doing the engine pull and install. http://www.airpowerinc.com/ TBO is not mandatory in the part 91...

No, the ruddervaters are not a wear item or service life restricted. Yes, the biggest issue for the RV's is corrosion and you're spot on for how to prevent it and avoid the problem. Just wish there was a way to figure out how well past owners treated an aircraft. :eek: Cheers, Brian

My advice besides what has already been hashed out above (especially @Salty ), get a degree in something you're interested in while you're working on your ratings and flight time. It'll give you something to fall back on if your health should fail down the road and ground you permanently...
