Missed an opportunity to poke at a Cirrus

you know that putting your arms out and flapping doesn't make it go faster, right?

    GTN 750 froze up!

The remote audio panel bit is interesting, I'd not thought about it before but it's key to the redundant systems concept, and if it's built into or controlled by one of the systems that's an issue. I know it wasn't the failure mode here, but which COM does your audio "panel" failsafe to?

Back in the saddle -- and a question

Interesting, for the past few months it has felt like it takes two hits to program the card too. The first one results in an error for me too.

Back in the saddle -- and a question

You got me curious so I tried it. Looks like #GAT is the default User defined waypoint. You get the same effect if the DB is missing or corrupted. Looking at the coordinates, I'm guessing that's "Garmin AT". It points to the airport in Salem, OR.

    ADS-B in: Garmin vs Stratus?

I've been playing with the same thought recently. I think I've landed on Stratus for the IN component, for a few reasons. 1. It's nice to have the targets on the panel displays, but I hear most 480 owners say that they turn the traffic off, the screens are already cluttered at times without...

Cross border ops: Canada to US

Plenty, that looks cool! Did you take a routing over the lake, or stay over the shoreline? Also where did you clear customs on the way back into the US?

    Thoughts of this archer

Just a few thoughts from my experience, which I know is a lot less than some others on here: 1. Don't get attached to any plane just yet, i know it's hard as you get excited about it. 2. Do as much type club research as you can before you go visit, some have a list of things you should look...

    Landing tips

When you think about the phase of landing you are talking about, most of the action happens in the flare which last 10 seconds at most. So you have a couple of minutes practice so far. Good game, eh? Flying a low approach and seeing how the mechanics work without needing to worry about the...

ModAero, an Ill-Fated Attempt at a New Aviation Event

Just watched the video on the site, apparently 48% of pilots are millennial, including me (they have defined it as 18-44). I thought that the millennial generation started in 1981? If this really is a generational thing and there's a gap in the way that group is being served, I wonder if the...

    CHECK YOUR FUEL

I think the big advantage is on a high wing, where a good look down inside the tank can be challenging at times :)

    Altimeter failed IFR check

I can't speak to the testing process. However, a repair, overhaul or exchange would certainly be cheaper. For example http://www.flyaqi.com/pressure.htm

    CHECK YOUR FUEL

I bought one of these last year. Especially on a high-wing it makes the fuel check process very easy, and more accurate. http://www.fuelstik.com

    [na] Thread about tea [na]

+1 for the tea infuser and loose leaf suggestion. Oolong if you want to take Cajun's suggestion of Chinese tea in a Chinese pot. Unfortunately the loose leaf teas don't come with an individual motivational message. Although if you spill some all over the counter and don't clean it up, someone...

    Flying into OBX

If you're going to rent a car, do so from the FBO at MQI, rather than Enterprise. I made the mistake of the latter last year and paid far too much in comparison.

    Radio Check

I did once, middle of the day on flight following heading from Flagstaff to Albuquerque. I think I was on the same frequency for about 90 minutes without hearing another plane, made worse by the fact that the controller was trying to regain radio contact with another plane when I had checked on...

Cessna 172 camlock cowl faster replacements?

It looks like Skybolt sell the component parts, i'm assuming that's a "threaded insert"? https://store.skybolt.com/cloc-2000-series-receptacles-c148.aspx
