    Wearing glasses with aviation headsets

Most of the current ear seals can cope with glasses in some way, but not always perfectly. Glasses frame styles can help, too. When flying I wear either a silhouette frame (the temple is a very thin piece of flexible metal) or an Oakley frame (not flexible, but flat and also reasonably thin).

My take on the 2017 Mooney Ovation Ultra

Is there a price on the ultra, yet?

Fore flight Log time vs Hobbs - Logging

If you have foreflight set to start the timer manually, then it starts on lift off but automatically adds (some time for taxi etc). I can't remember if that's 15 or 30 mins. I queried them about this once, and that's just the way it is designed. I've put starting and stopping the foreflight...

Does foreflight seem to be getting slower?

I'm seeing the same thing, on a Mini 2. Getting a bit nervous if Apple discontinues the mini line. Is a Mini 4 better for performance.

So.....would you pay extra for Nikasil cylinders?

I have an aversion to the name because of Jaguars failure with it in the late 90s, but I think that was down to high sulphur level in the fuel. Curious to know how it goes.

Fixing an old Weber kettle grill

I'd go for the bolt approach, personally.

    Uber over the top 182

That's why I was curious. In the photo the Oil Temp, RPM and MP are different. Is that possible even with the single converter?

Did the two engine monitors read different figures?

    [NA]Computer monitors[NA]

That's quite old at this point, and the resolution is lower than most of what you would expect in current generation screens. Can't see what the price was, but I recently bought a 23" Acer monitor that was discounted for the week in Best Buy for ~$90.

    ADSB-Out

I installed an ESG and a 2S a couple of months ago. Simple to use, clear display. I like the readout that shows me the Mode C reported ALT, a good cross check. I bought a Stratus 2S to go with it, and have the install kit to hook them together, although I've not done so yet (just waiting for...

    Automated Landing Fees

I'm not suggesting that was the case. They were very apologetic and removed the fee right away. I was more curious about the billing method (detected from radar tracks), and whether others had come across a similar issue there or other places. $5

    Automated Landing Fees

I got a landing fee bill in the mail today from Stewart International (SWF). Curious, cause I've never been there. I called the number and the lady removed all charges. Turns out a third party generates the bills from radar tracks. I checked my track logs and I did fly over SWF at 7000 ft on...

Can I legally fabricate my own panel in a certified plane

Are you just doing the overlay or the complete panel? I bought a panel for mine, which came powder coated and silk screened, but took several attempts to fit properly. In hindsight I wish I had measured and had something fabricated something for myself. If an overlay, I agree. Carbon Fiber...

    suggestions for upgrading C172 panel?

I guess I'm the cheap one then. I'd go with a used 440, 430 or 480. I went for the latter. Seems silly to make the upgrade without GPS approach capability. If you want to splash out, I'd far rather spend the money on a G5 (or similar) to a) get away from the vacuum failure mode and b) provide...

What should the April 26-29 - M34 (Kentucky Dam airfield) fly-in be called?

Depending on the date, I'd be up for it. No recommendations on the location though, I don't have any experience of the area. I'll leave that to the local experts. :)

    Aircraft ad interpretation

40 STOH (Since Top Overhaul) would have been clear and more accurate. I've always thought that "SOH" is just the time since any type of overhaul was performed, which usually requires further investigation to find out what was actually done.

    Aspen 1000 bracket height

My number is less than an inch above the top hole and is visible above the Aspen. The flush mounting requires an extra install kit if you want to do that. I actually found the buttons easier to push with the bevel rather than flush mounting. Check out the installation requirements for backup...

    KX-175B audio distortion

I had the stratus installed. There wasn't much research behind it, I just happened to be installing the Stratus ESG and the shop had experience with their USB power supply too. In hindsight the Mid Continent Clock and USB combined might have been a better option for panel space, but I've no...
