Sounds like you didn't do a thorough pre-flight. I know my checklist used to say check lights, flaps and other things, maybe the fuel level then walk around. I have forgotten as it has been so long since I looked at a checklist.
I flew a Cherokee 6-300 with the Horton STOL kit, it was one of the slowest trips ever. I think we did about 110 knots from CO to KY to FL. There was a belly thing that dropped and the aileron droop. Very draggy.
I would say we plan for 135 in cruise with the droop tips so they don't seem too...
This may or may not be helpful. We have Madras tips (no gap seals) and the plane will fly ridiculously slow, like 50 over the numbers, which makes it really hard to stop before we get to the end of the 9,000ft runway without using the brakes.
Something I hope to never experience. We have gone all LED in the plane but the 530/430 are still a big draw. Certainly interested to know how long everything would last on our newer battery - oh and probably best to get the gear down early and pull the CB.
Looked at the Garmin site and saw that the R182 is still in limbo but they keep adding aircraft to the “working on it right now” like the 180 and 185.
Somebody at Garmin who flies a Cherokee 140 or 150hp 172 must have had been dumped by a lady who left them for an RG Pilot.
I get it you are...
Hire an instructor and get some XW training. Day rate for a CFI can’t be that bad. Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to fly to Vegas, short notice for a free hotel room and some spending money? Well I wouldn’t but we have a new puppy.
The mechanics I hang out with will do most things involving nudity and money, perhaps even a pre-buy without nudity but the pre-buy on our plane was converted to an annual.
Move to Mexico, plenty of unused airports over there, paid for by taxpayers with all the frills. Maybe you could just fly over, land and demand full benefits and free AVGAS.
