To buy or not to buy

^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^ Plane will need money budgeted for annual inspections and maintenance. Figure a cylinder or two in the future as possible issue. Get a good prebuy done then decide.

    Past damage history

True and seller never got back to me so I will keep looking and working on my A&P license. I may end up building a new Vans RV 7a with a fellow A&P student.

average labor cost to change 2 main tires on 210?

So if A&P salaries are so low, why do shops charge a fortune?

    Engine Monitor?

You can use the CHT and EGT in most planes that do a good job without spending a ton extra on a fancy engine monitor. If you have a twin or turbo charged aircraft, it is useful to measure TIT and other things. But a waste on Cessna 172 for example. Nice but rather spend money on gas or better...

    Engine Monitor?

They are very useful in high performance turbo charged aircraft and Twins to keep track of engine temperature to avoid cooking the engine. Overkill for a Cessna or Piper fixed gear.

average labor cost to change 2 main tires on 210?

Ouch! This is one reason why I am working on my A&P to save on maintenance costs when I buy a plane.

    Past damage history

It was a Debonair with smaller engine. I see better ones online for 50k.

    Past damage history

Well I really don't call 70k a steal for a 50 year old Beechcraft with past major damage history and lack of updated avionics. Maybe if it was a Staggerwing or classic. If it was priced 20k sure thats a deal.

    Past damage history

Well my spidey sense tells me to walk away. So I will keep looking. No rush on my part. If the plane was a steal and I already had my A&P and a shop with tools to work on neglected planes perhaps.

    Past damage history

True and I just reviewed the logs they sent me. My concern is the damage history and recent annual looks like what is called a pencil whipped ****poor annual done by a shade tree mechanic! I am working on my A&P right now and see all kinds of shady work done.

    Past damage history

In this case, the seller died of cancer so his sons are dealing the sale of the plan as part of an estate. I nicely asked them several times for logs and no dice. So I am moving on.
  12. B

    Past damage history

Anyways back to topic, the seller sent me fragment of the logbooks and no 337 forms so I'm gonna pass and keep looking for a plane without damage history.

    Taxi Or Backtaxi?

I've been requested by the tower before to back taxi and also have on some uncontrolled strips. Its no big deal and kinda fun.
  14. B

    Past damage history

The seller had a reman IO-470N engine and prop installed based on the logbooks. I still need to look at the 337s.
  15. B

    Past damage history

I am looking at a plane that had a gear up belly landing 13 years ago. Seller passed away and trustee sent me the 337 forms and repairs done by replace engine and prop. Would you buy a plane with past major damage history if the prebuy checks out? How much value would you discount for past...

How much airframe time is too much?

I figure if I get a fun plane to finish up my IFR rating and make burger runs that if I want a faster complex bird later, I can at least have a puddle jumper to fly to look at these in the future on a budget and see it later or trade up. The hard part is finding one with a Garmin GPS.

How much airframe time is too much?

Thanks guys! Well there is a nice Piper Archer for sale in San Diego that is good and can be great for time building and IFR rating. Archers hold value well like Cessna 172 so I can always use it for weekend burger hops or trade up to a faster complex bird later.

How much airframe time is too much?

So I am looking at some older planes from Cessna and Beechcraft from 1962-1975 time period. What would be the highest airframe to consider if you plan to fly 100 hours a year for next 10 years?

Have you considered the military to get trained as a pilot?

How much TT is too much?

Great question! Would 10,000 hours be too much TT on older Bonanza like a 1977 F33? The reason is prices are better deal on one that I'm considering that has a low time new factory engine. What is the maximum factory tolerance for most airframes before metal fatigue turns the plane into an...
