    Working on avionics as A&P

Well for me, I am doing the training so that I can work on my own airplanes without getting ripped off. I already have a major San Diego aircraft shop willing to help me get started once I have my ratings. I heard you also need FCC first class telegraph operator license to do avionics work is...

First gotcha in annual- Piper experts come here

Best of luck. I have found a lot of neglected planes in my search. Hence why I decided to complete my A&P to be able to safely maintain my future airplane purchase without going bankrupt!

    Home IFR training sims?

I have a Redbird Jay which is pretty good for the money. Or you can go the home build route and get the Saitek yoke and rudder pedals and Microsoft Flight Simulator X or XPlane for PC. I find both useful for practice and review. Cannot log time but still good.

    Working on avionics as A&P

So I want to also learn avionics rating as part of my A&P and having difficult time identifying what additional exams and so forth to get to be able to install, maintain, and repair avionics and flight instruments besides the A&P rating. If I want to remove old crap and put in a new Garmin set...

    Cost to redo panel arrangement

Geez guys, so glad that I decided to get my A&P and avionics licenses over next few years. The horror stories on how many shops and A&P rip off gullible pilots and so on makes my stomach churn! I am going to ask my instructors why fraud and con artists are so rampant in the aviation field...

How much to deduct from offer for past damage history?

That is what I will do offer half. Not in rush. Right now I need to finish my A&P training and then can find a project plane which is unfortunately most of the used single piston aircraft fleet in spite of seller and broker denial. That or build a new RV from scratch to put my A&P skills to the...

How much to deduct from offer for past damage history?

My concern are when seller cannot produce sufficient documentation for repairs. That leaves a lot of unknown factors that even a prebuy cannot determine. Same for missing logs. These affect the value of plane.

    Cost to redo panel arrangement

Right Tom, I understand. Assume I buy a new panel kit from D'Shannon for 3k, how much would a shop charge me to install it and re arrange the instruments if no rewiring has to be done? So it takes 5 hours maybe to do that?

How much to deduct from offer for past damage history?

I am waiting to see the 337 forms from the seller. The log books were not very detailed on the repair so that concerns me. Will have to review 337 forms and engine shop that did work. Then can assess. I've heard between 10-30% based on repair work done and time since accident and repair. Yes...

    Dying attitude indicator?

Maybe put a new Aspen in it? That is what I would do if funds permitted to get rid of the old instruments.

    Cost to redo panel arrangement

So one plane under consideration has what I call a squirrely non standard six pack panel layout for the instruments. I want to fix this and install a third party STC panel from D'Shannon. How much would an A&P avionic shop charge me to do this work and how long would it take? Looking to find out...

    John King

Corny as they both are, I actually found the video course useful for IFR. Would be great to meet them in real life. I live in San Diego and stop by King office but they are rarely there unfortunately.

    Buying Cessna for flight training???

That is why I am shopping for a plane that already has most of ADSB ready. Saves time and money now. I'd rather be up and flying to wrap up my IR and Commercial ratings in plane.

    Buying Cessna for flight training???

My advice is to wait at least until you are ready to solo. Get the bad landings on a rental plane so you do not have expensive MX bills.
