2000's DA40 vs >1977 Arrow III - Best financial alternative

Just because someone has to do it, I will volunteer. I was considering the same thing as you. I have a good amount of arrow time, and felt comfortable in them, but prices are crazy, so I was thinking about da40s and Columbia's. I ended up with a bonanza for not too much more than nice arrows are...

    Insurance question

I think insurance is high in general right now. I just bought a f33a, and the best quote I got was just over 4k. That is with ifr, 130 hours retract, 370 total, but no time in type. Crazier yet, they wanted another 800 a year to add my instructor who is a DPE with thousands of hours.

    Help me equip my hangar

For the struts, I thought it had to filled with nitrogen in some special way. Is this pump just for temporary use?

    Help me equip my hangar

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I really appreciate the creativity too :). I should have probably prefaced the conversation with what is currently in the hangar. Also the picture was taken in Houston where I picked up the plane. My hangar is in a private hangar community, and it is...

    Help me equip my hangar

I just purchased a new to me F33A and hangar. To say I am excited about life right now is an understatement. I am going to Oshkosh later this week, and I need to equip my hangar. This is my first aircraft ownership experience, so let me know what I should put on the list. I am pretty sure I...

    Hot Start Phobia

On my arrow, I tried the don't touch anything method at first and if it went 4 blades or so without catching, I would slowly open the throttle until it started coughing. Basically assumed it was a rich mixture and tried to find the right air ratio to make it catch. Seemed to work for me.

    Partnership of 5

Check the scheduler going back as far as possible to see how much the plane is used. I joined a partnership of 9, years back and it was awesome. I was the only one who flew it and paid 1/9 the fixed costs. I wish I still had that deal. If the other partners use it every weekend and are just...

    Instrument approaches in an arrow

Thanks again for the valuable input. I went up today, and it appears 15" and about 2.5 degrees pitch up gives 90-95 knots clean and level. Just before FAF gear and one notch of flap with maybe slight power reduction give glideslope descent. This is all subject to conditions obviously, but I...

    Instrument approaches in an arrow

Thanks for the input. I did plan to do some hands on experimenting. I was just looking for a starting point while I waited to be re-approved for the club arrow. I should be able to try it out tomorrow. Sounds like trim and power for ~90-100knts entering the approach. Drop the gear and a...

    Instrument approaches in an arrow

This is my first post since passing my ifr check ride. I just completed the ifr flying a fairly basic warrior. While I have quite a bit of arrow time overall, I need to transition my instrument skills to the complex arrow 3. I was wondering what power settings people use in the various phases of...

    172B's / O300-D

Make sure you fly one before you get too deep. I flew a 1964 172 with an o300 shortly after getting my license. It couldn't get out of its own way or climb to save its life. It was smooth and good for taking pictures, but i wouldn't want to travel far in it. I don't think it even broke...

    cockpit management

I do have the iPad mini. I think the issue may be that I need more arm extensions to get it lower on the yoke. Currently it comes up from the yoke and then just tilts toward me. Another arm section would get it in front of the yoke and lower based on what I am seeing/hearing here. I will...

    cockpit management

I just started my IFR training, and my biggest concern is the cockpit management aspect. I am flying in a very basic Warrior with a 430 and no AP / electric trim, etc. I have a RAM yoke mount for the iPad, but can't really use that as it covers the 6 pack. I'm curious what others do about...

Help me understand the costs of updating a panel

About 5 years ago I put a GTN650, PMA8000G, and GTX345 into our Arrow and it came in right about $30K. It is crazy expensive for what it is, but I loved flying that plane. The market seems crazy right now, so if you have to buy now, find a solid air frame and make it your own. I'm getting...

    Finding a hangar

Wow. I had no idea this post would generate so much information. Thanks for all the great feedback. I have to admit I am a little depressed after reading it. Getting hangar space is sounding like a monumental task right now. I will start calling around and trying to grab some if I can find...

    182 try out

I am trying to narrow down what aircraft to pursue. I am seriously considering a 182P,Q,R as it seems to fit my mission well. I have flown several vintages of 172's, but no 182's. Most of my time is in Pipers including a HP endorsement in a Lance and the majority of my time in arrows. I...

So what did you end up doing? Did you find something at ARR for rent when you searched? You are not instilling confidence for me :(.

    Finding a hangar

Thank you for some really good inputs. It is true that I was targeting KDKB. I live pretty equidistant between KDKB and KDPA. KDPA hangars are double KDKB, but there is availability. There are also several planes tied down there. I think I have narrowed the list of planes down to turnkey...

    Finding a hangar

I am curious... I am considering buying my first plane. The airport I would want to hangar at is full and has a waiting list. I was thinking if I find a plane and jump on it, what do I do with it until a hangar becomes available? I guess the options are: get a hangar at a more expensive...
