    Another crash :(

Great! If it doesn't slow to a stall, make a $50 donation to Angel Flight West. If it does, let me know where I should send my $50. I've reserved some time for Friday afternoon in the local C-152 to see if I can get some videos of the attitude indicator, airspeed, and throttle. (Last time I did...

    Another crash :(

I've only experimented with a C-152 and C-172. That's all that is available for rent at my FBO.

I don't dispute anything you wrote - you are correct. Also, I did not intend to make a blanket statement applicable to all airplanes. Earlier in the thread I wrote the following with the intent to narrow my assertion:

    Another crash :(

Not sure I understand (never flown a Cub.) Are you saying the trim setting for 60 on climb is different from the trim setting for 60 on final? Is it a J3 or Super Cub? That is, are flaps being used on final but not on climb?

    Another crash :(

Sorry. The reason I responded at all was your claim, like many others have, that loss of power on climb will cause a stall. This is a myth. The only way to bust a myth is to make people actually try it. Actually the cause of such stalls is the instinct to pull back on the elevator when the...

    Another crash :(

Only if a pilot attempts to maintain the pitch at the same angle relative to the horizon would an airplane slow to a stall on engine out. But if the pilot is holding a constant pressure, or no pressure (trimmed,) then the air speed will not change much. That is because by regulatory requirement...

    Another crash :(

Only if you are climbing at less than best glide speed. Otherwise you don't need to push or pull on the elevator control. The plane will naturally (and rather quickly, actually) pitch down so as to maintain trimmed speed. I bet you $50 that if you take an airplane up to the altitude where you...

Thanks for handling the map admin stuff AuntPeggy. Thought I'd post to this thread to see what newbies might take notice so they can think "Hey neat" and publish their targeting coordinates. :D

FAA ATC Biographical Assessments results tossed by congress

Besides modest medical reform, congress gave the FAA the back of its hand when it basically negated the FAA's use of "biographical assessments" for screening air traffic control applicants: “(2) USE OF BIOGRAPHICAL ASSESSMENTS.— “(A) BIOGRAPHICAL ASSESSMENTS.—The Administrator shall not use...

What is a good bid for this C-172?

I've been told that it sold for $22,500 at the Angel Flight West Endeavor Awards live auction on Saturday night.

What is a good bid for this C-172?

That was my best guess. Biggest issue is all the unknowns. Reason for donating the plane to Angel Flight West would appear to be that the co-owning pilot husband died, not that the plane had any issues that made the seller want to dump.

What is a good bid for this C-172?

Pictures and logs available; wondering whether it is worth it (bidding ends in a couple hours): http://96.88.87.22/silentauctionbid/Item?id=2003 Looks like the wife of the deceased husband is donating it to Angel Flight West: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/oaoa/obituary.aspx?pid=177295985

    SkyUber

Recent EASA rule changes have been made that allow ride sharing and advertising:Cost sharing by private persons The maximum number of people who can share the direct costs of a flight has been increased from four to six, including the pilot. Direct costs include fuel, airfield charges and...

Most efficient bank in takeoff engine failure

Ah, thanks. I recall running across the computation once upon a time but couldn't recall the initial assumptions.

    The PoA Relay (Race)

For what it is worth, the following airports encompass all three west coast states and there appear to be airport variants in WA and CA that appear to allow relays well north, south, and probably to the east. S20 - Goldendale (WA) S21 - Sunriver (OR) O21 - Hoopa (CA)

Most efficient bank in takeoff engine failure

For gliders, if the tow rope breaks at between about 200 and 400 feet, a bank angle of 45 degrees is suggested as being optimum when doing a 180 turn-back. [http://www.gliderbooks.com/downloads/M_Ch8.pdf] I do not know whether this is applicable to aircraft with lower L/D. Possibly a link to...
