    So I bought a C182 - what now?

Clean the bugs off after every flight. Fly it for a year before you decide on which upgrades you want to do.

If you are considering a Multi that you can't do your rating in than you are looking at planes that a low time pilot should not be flying.

Get your IFR. Insurance is going to required 10-25 hours in type so might as well get complex/multi in the airplane you buy.

    Opinion on Plane Purchase

I know people who spent $100k on a 5th wheel that they only use once a year. I know people with boats that only use them a few times a year. I try not to judge how or why other people spend their disposable income. As far as a 24-year-old engine I would run it till it needs an overhaul. Maybe...

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

If the person you lease it to has true operational control of the airplane you will have no say in where it is located, where it goes, who flies it and who works on it. You might not get an airworthy airplane back and the end of the lease. They may not let you fly the plane at all during the...

Route suggestions for CA to NC helicopter XC

There is a video on youtube of a Ercoupe flying from Nevada County California to Oshkosh. I assume the Ercope has similar performance and range.

Glider Pilot vs. Private Pilot Skills

Getting a glider rating is not just an endorsement. Still have to pass a check ride.

How many hours did you fly in 2023?

About 45hrs this year. The plane was down for 4 months for annual and 1 month for an Aspen E5 and Aerocruze 100 auto pilot install. The daughter and grand baby were here of 7 weeks and only flew twice during that time. So, 45 hours is not bad for six months of flying. I like to have around...

Evading interior border checkpoints by flying over them

I use to work for a charter service that would fly from Ohio to Lerado TX to pick up wiring harness for a local company. We would stop in Arkansas for fuel. Let’s say someone buys a small manufacturing company in Ohio and one in Mexico. Have the Mexico company order parts from Ohio and have them...

Aspen Avionics, Trio Avionics Release Integrated Autopilot Packages

I have a Aerocruz and an Aspen. The advantage to the Trio appears to be more indicators for mode/settings. The Aerocruz only has a knob and mode button which take a combination of pushing the knob and rotating to get the proper settings. It took me about 4-5 hours of just playing with it to...

If you had 3 months to travel in your plane, where would you go?

My bucket list includes flying US 1, coast to coast starting at first flight, the Mississippi stopping at small river towns and the Bahamas.

Who's an Airport Manager on here?

I’m on our airport commission. Our manager is a working pilot. Three of the four commissioners are pilots. We have room for more hangars if anyone wants to build. Our airport has always renewed the ground leases and has no desire to ever take ownership of hangars or fuel sales. The last...

GTX-345 and no Bluetooth in SYS menu

Seems odd that there is no bluetooth. I connect my Ipad and Iphone to the 345 for traffic, weather, gps and AHRS. You cannot send flight plans to the 430 thru the 345. You might want to take it to a dealer to see what the problem is.

    Smart Useful Load Margins

I fly a 78 C182 at gross weight all the time. Get some training flying at gross weight and at front & back cg locations. There is nothing wrong with limiting your useful load until you get some time in the airplane. I would not limit the useful load based on the age of the aircraft.
