    Purpose of the F-15?

No doubt, but I was just interested in the process more than the outcome.

    Purpose of the F-15?

What would it have taken for the YF-23 to win? How true is what I hear that it was sold by technically savvy engineers rather than charismatic salesman?

    182 vs early Bo?

I sat on an 1957 H35, and I was not impressed with the interior space compared to my PA-28-236. Is the cabin space on subsequent generation of Bonanzas significantly larger?

    Piper PA28 Trim Wheel

My trim tab was showing neutral when in fact it was aft. This caused me to have to work harder during takeoffs as I struggled to pitch down. I caught on to what was happening when I counted the full travel. Now, my takeoffs are as smooth as they have ever been. I originally attributed my...

    Piper PA28 Trim Wheel

I have a PA-28-236. I have about 6 1/4 turns forward and backwards from neutral.

    FlyQ EFB Inexpensive Offering

Around 2012, I switched from Foreflight to FlyQ because I genuinely liked the features of that generation of FlyQ more. I recognize that Foreflight has made more impressive enhancement to their products over the years such as their synthetic vision, flight planning, and 3D maps. Frankly, I...

Any A&P/IA available for a owner assisted annual??

Stratus ESG did not squawk altitude yesterday

Yesterday, I verified the abnormal behavior carefully. The unit was squawking altitude from startup to taxi. The unit changed to GND mode as soon as I became airborne. At about the time I reached pattern altitude, it switched to altitude. It switched to GND at times while flying racetracks over...

Stratus ESG did not squawk altitude yesterday

OP here After my initial problem, I wrote Stratus and some nice fellow replied with basically a copy paste of their FAQ section which was not helpful. I went on my first flight yesterday since my post. On takeoff, the tower asked my to recycle my transponder, but I reported that it was...

Does anyone use Victor Airways anymore?

I fly in south Florida. Victor airways are commonly present in my IFR clearances.

    Major?

Study what you are interested in, and be the best that you can possibly be. An undergraduate degree in physics will force you to think for yourself and build concepts from the ground up. Engineering is similar in that regard, but you might give up learning theory in as diverse areas as...

Why I No Longer Fly Lean of Peak For Now

I fly behind a Lycoming O-540-J3A5D. When flying at “55%” or “65%” power settings, I lean until a stumble and then enrich until smooth operation. Correlation with my engine monitor shows that this puts 5 out 6 cylinders lean of peak and my richest cylinder #6 near or at peak. When flying at...

Why I No Longer Fly Lean of Peak For Now

It might not be random. I would be more inclined to buy a plane with a mid-time 1989 reman than a new or remanufactured Continental. If anyone is interested, go to Beechtalk and it won’t be hard to find evidence of quality control and manufacturing issues. I suspect the OP will likely need to...

Stratus ESG did not squawk altitude yesterday

I don't know how, but at the time I was seeing the pressure altitude on the screen of my transponder. Edit: I remember my irritation increasing as I saw the pressure altitude on the screen and the blasted device simply refusing to transmit it (until decided to do so on its own a few minutes later).

Stratus ESG did not squawk altitude yesterday

From the FAQ on Appareo’s website, going more than 15 knots on the ground for more than 10 seconds can cause it to go to ALT mode, but I really don’t think I did that yesterday. I wonder if what you posit represents another mechanism.

Stratus ESG did not squawk altitude yesterday

Hmmm... The confusing thing is that I saw the transponder squawking ALT on the ground before leaving the ramp. I only looked there before getting on the taxiway because the AFD for KMCO called for ALT at all times. This unit usually does not go into ALT until I'm airborne, so I was surprised to...

Stratus ESG did not squawk altitude yesterday

Just wondering if anyone has experience this, too. Yesterday, I took off from KMCO, and the controller asked me to recycle my transponder. Sure enough, my transponder was on the ON mode but not squawking altitude. When I pressed the ALT button, it stayed on the ON mode. I then cycled the...

Review: Bose A20 vs Lightspeed Zulu 3

The plastic holding the positive battery terminal on my wife’s Lightspeed Sierra broke after 1 1/2 years. I am sending it in for repair this week. Although I am confident they will fix it, I am concerned about the durability of this brand. The rubber encasing the wire coming out of the earcup is...
