    Pimp My Ride. Grumman Style.

I finally subscribed to your channel and watched some of the videos. Now my wife is giving me that “wtf are you laughing at at 10pm” look. Great stuff.

    Where’s the phone number?

Where do I find the phone number for towers? SWF specifically. I’d like to arrange a tour, but heck if I can find the number anywhere.

Saying 2.5 instead of 2500, etc?

You forgot “but we’ve got em on the fish finder”.

Saying 2.5 instead of 2500, etc?

I use it for the passing altitude in a climb or decent. Example, “6.2 climbing 8 thousand”. I do not use it for the cleared altitude or in a readback. For example I would not say “descend and maintain 6.5” or “out of 7 climbing 9.5”.

    Customs..Basicmed?

Interesting. Is this specific to returning from the Bahamas? I’ve cleared customs 14 times in the last 2 months and have never been asked for any pilot documents at all. That’s at FXE, PBI, and FLL.

    Finding more work.

How do you prove it when the owner didn’t like the write up and cut the page out of the logbook?

    Finding more work.

All of this is why you never, ever give your aircraft logbooks to any mechanic you’re not 110% confident in. Get the work done, get a sticker with the required entry on it, and put it in the books yourself.

PPL Solo & HP Time Towards Insurance Rates

Yes, time in type is always helpful for insurance rates. The annual insurance renewal form for the Navajo asks for total time, time in type, complex time, and date of the required category & class IPC.

    GoPro Wingtip Mounting

I made a mount for tiedown rings using a small piece of aluminum angle. Drill a hole in one leg of the ‘L’, pass a 3/8 bolt through that hole and use a wing nut, lock washer, and extra-large flat washer to secure it through the tiedown. On the other leg of the L drill a smaller hole to fit a...

Flying Adventure: Relief to Puerto Rico

It’s not quite that bad, but close. They list a ramp fee of $65, landing fee $25, air navigation fee $5, and customs costs $115. Overnight parking appears to be 24/day. For us they waived the ramp fee and we didn’t ever stay overnight. God help you if you come in on a weekend, though; Her...

Flying Adventure: Relief to Puerto Rico

Over the past few weeks, we have had the opportunity to donate some flying to get supplies down to Puerto Rico. Along with us was a PC-12 and a C-421B. Cargo in total consisted of water, shelf-stable milk, water filters, chainsaws, tools, tarps, and medicine. This was the first time I've really...

Cheapest plane that can carry two (or more) longboards

A Cherokee 6 would do it with ease. You could find a good, not great, one under 100. And they are fast enough you can actually take the boards somewhere.

    Flying with the door open

Considering it only mandates the bottom half be closed, the 'structural damage' it warns of is probably the door getting ripped off on a stray chock.

    Flying with the door open

That's good to know! I've often wondered if the door would depart the aircraft if it came open. Glad to know it doesn't....

    Flying with the door open

It only becomes a big deal when you have an airstair door, or cargo doors in front of propellers. For example, the nose baggage compartment on the Navajo will feed luggage directly into the left prop if it comes open.

Static in headset with left rudder

I would look for a loose wire in the vicinity of the rudder linkage. Something that gets pinched or moved when the pedal is depressed.
