    Eastern PA/Northwestern NJ GA

Hackettstown is relatively cheap for NJ and there's even a train line into NYC. I prefer Morristown myself as you can find reasonable apartments around a good night life. Careful about being classed as working in NJ but living in PA as you'll have to file 2 state income taxes (PA gives a...

    So, Textron just bought Pipistrel

You seen the guys over at bushliner.com? They're building a 185 "clone" kit with a better wing which they purchased from another designer.

Typical Insurance cost on Cirrus sr 20

You can always call Avemco and ask for a quote on a plane you're considering. They're the only one who don't work with beokers.

Fuel at $10, how much will you fly?

I will continue to fly my IO-470 powered plane regardless of $5, $7, or $10 avgas. I bought it to take my family places and have memories. Those are priceless. Now of we're talking $20/gal those memories might be more ...limited.

    EDM-700 w/ FF to EDM-900

@Jesse Saint , so what you're saying is they are guiding me to something easier to install and therefore cheaper. Another shop said if I'm adding a g500 txi to also just go the Garmin route. Oi!

    EDM-700 w/ FF to EDM-900

My bird has an EDM-700 w/ fuel flow and oil temp. I get that going from 2ndry to primary means a complete reinstall of all current sensors plus RPM and MP probes. What other probes need to be added as "standard" and which ones are optional? Spoken to a few places and two are trying to get me to...

    Cessna 210C Model

The flaps are also hydraulic before '65, too. Insurance is also something else. I priced out a 182 vs a 4-seater 210, same hull value and coverage. They wanted 5x the 182 and told me it'd drop to only 3x after 100hrs.

    Thoughts on current airplane market

I see a ton of Boomers retiring and picking up airplanes. I keep hearing they finally waited and now they have time to fly. The kit market is crazy, too, for many of the same reasons. Hell, if I were retiring I'd go for a polished aluminum plane, 172 or 182 Johnson bar.

    Thoughts on current airplane market

I just put a deposit on a plane that I could have bought 3 yeats ago for half the price I'm paying now. I'm not in the 1%, never have been, maybe one lucky day i will be. I'm paying cash but I've been damn lucky in life. If COVId taught me anything, it's finally time to start enjoying that luck...

A couple of firsts (for me)

Gratz. Will also caution against 100 ceilings unless you knew cloud tops were at 500. Even still, an engine failure in the soup that low is disaster.

    ADSB-in solutions?

Used GDL-39 and Foreflight. Cost effective as hell. If you want to spend money, Lynx-9000 for traffic/weather and Foreflight. ADS-B sucks on a 430W.

    1971 C150L - High Airframe Time + Prop Strike - Good Buy?

A field overhaul is not the same as an actual overhaul, e.g. the SMOH isn't reset to "0." Check the log book. There isn't much out there right now for 40k. Closest you could come are the early straight tail Cessna 172 (love 'em) unless you want to venture into experimentals.

A question about ice in the north east

Most weekends up in the NE I can fly. I'd say 80% of them. During the week, it's more like 60% because that's how the world works when you need to make a trip. I'd figure if you're in retirement and have a flexible schedule then icing won't stop you, it'll just tell you what days you can go.

    Plane Prices

Prices on 182 are so out of whack that Lance, Cherokee 6, and even A36 are looking compelling. There's stupid and then there's this.

    Plane Prices

Can't wait to see the "why I bought the plane I did" video you've alluded to. The "so you like ADs" vid was just awesome. My own wife balked, hard, at a '60-'61 182. In the end the baggage compartment couldn't fit enough even with an extended baggage mod and she pushed me to continue with a 206.

    Owning and Flying Over TBO

Our mechanic says he will not pass anyone on annual who is more than 500hr over TBO. Something to do with liability. No pilot would sue the IA if something happened but I guarantee their insurance company plus family's lawyers would go after the guy.

    My 1959 Cessna 182B

If you don't mind me asking, just how much more was the straight tail compared to a slant tail? I've always loved straight tails, even the cramped 172s.
