Avonic upgrade on a FTP337G Reims

A dual GI-375 wired to existing AP, existing WAAS, and the vacuum system pulled was quoted close to $16k for a buddy. My own plane which came with a JPI 700, STEC 55x and 430W is going to run ~30k for an Aspen 2000, vacuum removal and install of a used Lynx-9000D+. You might be able to get...

    Dynon Skyviews HDX in PA-28-180

Damn that looks nice. Wish Dynon could drive STEC, I'm having to "settle" for Aspen.

    Socata TB-9 Tampicos

I would head over to socata.org for best answers, however... 1. They are extremely comfortable but underpowered. If time building, who cares? 2. The factory still supports the models. So parts aren't an issue to obtain. Some of these were used and abused by flight schools, so be warned of high...

    Does it ever stop?

I have 6 seats and ~1400lbs of useful. I still look at a Kodiak with lust. Hell, I look at straight tail 182s with lust. Don't even get me started on commanche 400... There's always another fish in the sea.

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

I'm going to second the partnership route. If you don't know anyone, ask around about a non-equity partnership. Those by me have been more fluid on the ingress/outgress of the financial coupling.

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

Comanche? Here's 65k with some hours on the frame but if you looking for speed, comfort, and an inexpensive XC machine where you don't mind doing a little extra work for ownership...

Cessna 172H deal - Your thoughts?

Sounds great to me. I'd buy it, flip the plane as is, take those avionics, and get me a 182A,B,C D or 172D,E. But seriously, those avionics alone with a hull like that will get you more value than you're paying. The H model is good but the earlier ones with the manual Johnson bar are better. IMO

    Avionics advice?

If you don't even have your PPL then no insurance company will write you a policy for a multi. Go buy a cheap time builder to time build ("cheap" as in holds value, low mx, etc.) Then maybe once you have 250hrs think about buying a multi.

    Goodbye KRHV Reid Hillview

The lead gas is a pretext. This ain't "woke" stuff. They aren't "lefties" or "righties" on the town council. They're just ordinary people doing what ordinary governments have done for many, many years... exploiting a side hustle for money.

GAMI vs Swift UL fuel competition

Sure, GAMI will get their STC ...just a few months after everyone else. Too bad they won't be in time to negotiate with the major suppliers. /s Honestly, I don't care who wins. I just want that STC.

    X-C Plane Selection Advice

You need to consider a larger area if you really only need 2 seats... 1. Lancair 320 or 360: Fun, fast, and economical. Has 2 seats and carries some luggage. 2. An RV: They're the good standard of experimental. Several models and you should check them out. Other than that, buy commercial to...

I bought an airplane. It was a lifelong dream. 6 months later, I'm out. (Reddit post)

When I bought earlier this year I called 15 shops before I could find a pre-buy; seller wanted it done on his field. The other shops (all 2 of them) could not commit to a prebuy that wasn't 4+ weeks out. For maintenance, I'm using the same shop that did all 4 of our flying club planes (still a...

    G500 non-Txi

Like the 430/530 units, everything has a shelf life. Just understand Garmin has moved on and at some point you won't be able to get parts. Also note, the size of the hole in your panel will have to change to accommodate either a g3x or a g500xi.

    Led light upgrade recommendations?

The Aero-lite website says "not FAA/PMA approved." Does this mean they're only for experimental or someone has to file paperwork to install? The Whelen are PMA, which seems like I could, myself, just replace them.

Interpreting aircraft quality from sales listings

missing logs say, "You better trust the pre-buy." I once looked at a missing log plane and we couldn't tell if there had been a repair done which the FAA wasn't informed. Interpreting aircraft quality from sales listings

With experimental, just ask how many they've built. Sometimes they build, fly, and decide to go for the next shiny thing. It's like a drug if you're a tinker. Buikd and sell to finance the next aircraft.

How long until the pre-GARA fleet of aircraft are gone?

Nah, yours just requires X-Rays and an AD repair that I'd argue is worse than the problem it fixes. Btw, I love 18s. They're almost as nice as an Electra Jr. :P
