    Pacer or Clipper

Close, but ours was a converted tri-pacer. Later Tripacers had kicked out frames for another couple inches of shoulder room. I'd have to dive deep to know for sure, but I'd also guess that some of the STC'd mods on ours wouldn't be available for Clipper either - more support for PA22/20.

Where is the ideal place to train? (I'll relocate)

I'd echo again the first step is get a 3rd class medical. After that - I'd be curious what you'd like to do with a private ticket? Looking to go for $100 burgers and sunset flights? Cross country travel? Airplane camping/backcountry? That'd somewhat dictate where I'd go. For the purpose of...

    Airport Support Network Volunteer Experiences?

I'm an ASN volunteer for our small privately owned(not by me) but publicly accessible airport. There are a few municipal airports in our area that have a "friends of the airport" group that will do a lot of advocacy, certainly more than any single person could do. Should an issue arise with...

    Pacer or Clipper

Sounds like a Pacer would be about perfect then. Back seat is in and out easy enough, and with it out two bikes(even non folding) fit just fine. Ours had long wings (Sullivan) and 150hp. One of the best values I can think of as far as plane for dollar. At 6' 165# you probably won't even rub...

    Pacer or Clipper

6', 32" inseam, 230# Had a Pacer for 4 years or so, great airplane. Wouldn't have cared for a Clipper - not enough room for camping gear for 2. I sat in the back once, when we test flew the airplane before buying. Bought it, yanked the backseat, and didn't put it back in till we sold it -...

    Moving to Idaho!

Been a tough few weeks for flying clubs near here. Air Coeur's 182 had a bad day not too long after Skyraiders 177 had a really bad day. Best place I know of for info on KCOE is friends of the airport facebook page. I'd probably also stop in and chat with No Limits and CdA Aviation and...

What is your favorite Audio Panel?

We recently did similar in our R182. 2x 10" G3X touch, G5, GFC500, GNX375, GTR20, GNC255... and a PS Engineering PMA 450B. I've barely touched a lot of the functionality of it yet. So far my only very minor squawk is the auto squelch is a bit higher than I'm used to on other gear I fly...

how much risk flying in windy conditions

At one point yesterday afternoon KGEG reported 21G49. Made me chuckle a bit, I remember that number well as I had to land a long wing Pacer I sold to a group of guys down in the Denver area. Thankfully that wind was pretty much right down the pipe but we had about a 3 foot rollout. Taxiing...

Anyone been to Bowman Field KY recently?

Couple blocks away is the Brown hotel, also a neat one. Birthplace of the hot brown sandwich. In a similar vein is the Speed Art Museum - which is about what it sounds like with something for everyone. Of course there's also a little bit of bourbon there, and if you're one to tour a distillery...

    The death of an insitution

I was pretty heavily involved in Scouts from Cub to Eagle and a summer camp counselor for 3 years. Had a ton of fun and got quite a bit out of the program - our troop was a really good one with a good batch of parents to foster the group. My Dad was pretty involved as well, up to a...

Anyone been to Bowman Field KY recently?

Was there June 2022 for a family reunion. Because I'm a cheapskate I called flight schools asking about ramp space. They all pointed me to Louisville Executive, so paid the tie down rate - which is cheaper than you can park a car anywhere in town. We had one day where we rotated family...

Piece of plastic packaging blown into the tank

https://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-2-in-1-pickup-tool-94162.html?_br_psugg_q=grabber+tool I've had luck with a grabber tool like this retrieving things from fuel tanks. Definitely takes luck, holding your tongue the right way, closing one eye, and appropriate incantations.

    Thanks a lot, Ukraine

Sounds like I get to update my business cards and can now call myself a fighter pilot. Cessna loaded with explosives - callsign Leroy Jenkins?

Any regrets moving up to better plane

It's impossible to regret selling an airplane if instead of selling that airplane you simply increase the fleet. I'm fortunate that my partner(Dad) is a much an enabler as I am. The only airplane we've sold was a Pacer to "upgrade" to a 180. You could say there are 2 relative pains with the...

    Voltage Drop Residential

Typically the range is +/- 5% of nominal for the utility at the meter base - so at the mains you should have 114-126V. This can change throughout the day, or seasonally dependent as well. At the end of a run from that, could have as low as 110 around the house without a problem. Usually...

    Voltage Drop Residential

*Typically* the run from the transformer to meter panel is owned by the power company. That, and what you've got beyond all sounds pretty normal. Tagging on an extension for some lights and the occasional power tool is likely no problem. You could run into an issue if sump pump is running and...

    Voltage Drop Residential

What are you wanting to run on this circuit? Typically voltage drop isn't a major factor for house wiring - run the appropriate gauge romex for the breaker and you're fine. In this instance, difference between 14 and 12 is roughly 3 and 2 ohms/1kft, respectively. At steady state of 80% load...

Navion Panel Upgrade (make some recommendations)

We're almost complete on a panel upgrade for our R182, would guess similar use case on a Navion - light IFR XC bird that could be flown fairly hard IFR if needed. Previous panel was roughly the best 1990 had to offer, twin nav/com no GPS no AP. Ended up with enough on the need/want list that we...

    [Overhead wires]

Without knowing the load downstream, not really. Can't really tell conductor size from the picture either but as a semi educated guess looks like reconductoring from somewhere around #2 to #2/0, up to 336-556ish. Old small wire ampacity would be 180-280 or so, usually sized to carry 40-100 for...
