What’s the secret trick for getting a plug into a child proof socket?

That is a safety thing from the commercial codes. The idea is If the plug happens to be partly out and something falls down on it, the object will hit earth ground before hitting the Hot side thus blowing the breaker.

    Does ADS-R show non-transponder aircraft?

The short answer is, no. ADS-R is a rebroadcast of an ADS-B signal on the other band. For example, it is the rebroadcast of a 1090 ADS-B signal on the 978 UAT band. If the intruding aircraft is equipped with ADS-B Out, and the transponder is off there would be no ADS-B signal to be...

Airplane is ADS-B Out, but not seeing all the traffic

It should be, but the setting can get missed if the shop doesn't know you have a portable receiver. The default is no ADS-B receiver installed. Also, if you have a dual band receiver, the transponder should be set to tell the ground station you have both receivers on board . This lets the...

    HSI not working with KNS-81

I'd have a shop take a look at the HSI. There are slip rings and brushes that provide the signals to the D-bar and To/From flag in the center of the instrument from the rear connector. Over time the rings wear and can get debris on them causing intermittent operation.
