Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag - Which Android Device... Galaxy Tab S2 or NVidia K1?

Yall are right about my post. I was trying to get across the idea that, if there were a problem the FAA could come and say, "Well we gave directions in AC-555 that would have avoided the problem. Why didn't you follow them?"

    opening flight plans

Honestly there's no real need to activate in the air, only cancel. To cancel in the air, go on your sectional chart and find the nearest Flight Service Station (FSS) and give them a call on their frequency. They'll be able to close (and open if you really want to) your plans.

Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag - Which Android Device... Galaxy Tab S2 or NVidia K1?

Hah, that's like saying the AIM isn't regulatory. :P To me, if the FAA puts out anything, it's pretty much a required read.

    opening flight plans

I've had the same happen with me. It seems like most of the time ATC would rather leave you open rather than close and open two plans. It's super common with VFR flight-following around where I fly.

Same. I heard somewhere that VFR flight plans don't even get sent to the towers / ATC. Is this true, and if so, I don't understand the real use for a VFR flight plan other than SAR.

    First Thoughts: OSH 2016

Speaking of volunteers, has anyone stayed the week and volunteered one or two days? What was it like?

I could benefit from the answer to this as well.

    opening flight plans

First, there are no dumb questions. You can't imagine how many times I've asked "stupid questions" and learned things I would have never thought of. I personally wouldn't even file a test flight plan. Maybe it's me, but I cringe at thinking of a plethora of fake flight plans. Don't some filing...

    Checkride, Feb 22

Don't be surprised if you don't sleep well the night before; it gets better. :P Good luck! Do you know what your weak areas are in understanding ground knowledge?

    Crosswind landing question

When landing in crosswinds, it's important to keep (and constantly update) your crosswind corrections until you shut the plane down. I had this scenario on my checkride yesterday. We had a 12kt 50-degree crosswind. I brought us down in a crab, and switched to cross-controlling the aircraft...

    Can we talk about checklists

I'm all for verbal flows and calling things out, but I'm adamant that having it all written down on a checklist is important. I can imagine myself in many a scenario where the pressure is high enough that I forget small things like Carb Heat which turn out to be not so small.

Taking my IFR Check ride tomorrow and I'm a little nervous!!

Forget her busting, maybe she's just taken a week and has been filing every day with her new found privileges? :P By the way, my checkride is scheduled for this Friday morning!

    Can we talk about checklists

Low time pilot here who has been grilled for not using a checklist all through training. I use a checklist for every phase of flight; not just any checklist though. I've compiled everything in the POH as well as operating supplements and manuals that I'm required to carry and created my own...

    Plane down in San Pedro

Yep, I see that that now. I've seen it on some sectionals and TACs, but didn't bother to look at this one. This airspace is much more congested than what I'm used to.

    Plane down in San Pedro

Not sure if there actually is a site that describes it, but many practice areas are known to the airports and flight schools around it. For instance, we have an "East Practice area" 5 miles east of KOLV, and a "West Practice Area" surrounding KAWM, but only the people in the vicinity of Memphis...
