    Low compression cylinder...contributes to vibrations?

Exhaust valve was coloring with a lot of blowby under valve cover. It’s a IO520, was the center left or #4. I did pull the mags also for him to inspect, Bendix 1200s. One was replaced about 30 hours ago but the harness didn’t arrive in time so was changing that as well. Vibration wasn’t...

    Low compression cylinder...contributes to vibrations?

Got the plane in the hangar the other day, was getting a slight vibration that wasn’t present before. 6 point cht/egt didn’t show much abnormal, but it was vibrating enough, some friends asked why it was shaking. Checked compression and every cylinder was at 70+ except mid left #4 was at...

    Video of Alaska DC-6 Crash

Berm came out of nowhere. I’ve been there myself, most places like this I do a flyover since it’s usually unattended. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8n6hCAo-cn/

Took me awhile but got a tube changed out

I sure did. Had a small leak on the seam. Patch held but was still letting a little air past so got a new one coming. -78F with windchill. Ambient is a more reasonable -41F. Warming up slowly with a low moving in.

Took me awhile but got a tube changed out

Was a little chilly but got it done outside. Wish I had a hangar here. Aero #7 was solid as a rock...anything better I can use?

    Using dual G5s in IFR/IMC

Didn't know that, guess I missed it in the manual thanks.

Few pictures of the Alaska Coastal Route

First taste of snow. Handles the rougher runways better then the 182 and the prop clearance is even better. Dirt runways make the landings softer anyway

    can a G5 replace a VOR/LOC?

Can a G5 replace a KI209a or similar? Or can I install it in place of the AI and interconnect the G5 to provide advisory data from the NAV radio and IFR GPS?

Fly In - day after reflection on idiots in pattern

Fly-in's don't sound like fun. Sounds like a headache and stress trying to get into a busy place like that. Landing somewhere with nobody around for miles is what I look forward to.

    What to do from here

Why not look at a Mooney? Simpler then a 182RG, 2 less cylinders, less complicated gear. Stable and economical. Decent ones in the 30-45k range. I would own one if I could.

    Go around

@piperpainter ? Nice mooney, I've always wanted one but the prop clearance always worried me on gravel.

Few pictures of the Alaska Coastal Route

I guess it does look like a tylenol. The guy who I bought it from owned and hangared it for 40+ years but had slowed down on flying and was only averaging around 5 hours a year after an overhaul, so technically "low time" It has the long range tanks so there wasn't a landing that I had less...

Few pictures of the Alaska Coastal Route

Evening! Figured I would share a few pictures from the trip I flew a few weeks ago from the West Coast to Alaska. Started off when I found a decent looking spam can I liked in Washington. Spoke to the owner, put a deposit down and sent my IA down to look at it. I was already traveling for...

    cleaning wheel wells on retracts?

Nice, I thought about it but figured getting a bunch of water inside the wing wasn't a good plan. I was going to use a portable sprayer since there are no utilities anywhere close. I'll just go easy on it I guess.

    cleaning wheel wells on retracts?

Curious what the best way to get the wheel wells cleaned up from mud being thrown up on retracts? I mainly fly off of dirt and gravel strips/bars and flew into a couple airports that were pretty wet and muddy this week, and the wheel wells show it. I thought about using a sprayer with some...

how to find a ferry pilot

The prop is higher off the ground then my 182 haha. Moved it up a few weeks ago. Flew from Seattle to Fairbanks with a stop in Ketchikan. Pretty easy trip apart from all the smoke, didn't get to see much.

looking for a mechanic in northern WA

Will shoot you a PM, I've got a few leads now thanks guys. I was buying a plane in AZ, but found some discrepancies I didn't like. Damage etc. Not too happy the broker cost me $$ in time and cancelling airfare. Not going through a broker again.
