Two instrument rated pilots, one under hood, in IMC, both log PIC?

Idk if this is trolling or a legit question but the idea of two people both wearing foggles at same time while going in and out of IMC is foolish and likely illegal. When you enter VMC which one of you is looking for the VFR traffic Maybe I’m misteading this extreme “what if” question. I mean...

    Saratoga best for my flying?

My fixed gear Toga is 145 knots LOP But it also has 2200 hours TBO which may cost me a couple knots? Retract Togas tend to fly around 160 TAS. Like stated above I think the insurance and maintenance expense are kinda overblown. However, I do appreciate my discount however small it may be. For...

    Saratoga best for my flying?

I found mine within a couple hours of hitting barnstormers... when I wrote the check (in person) the next day, there was a waiting list of people wanting to make an offer.

    Panel Envy Sux

Congrats! You’re going to love those upgrades. And I won’t quote the post from an earlier reply but ignore the BS regarding G5’s not playing nicely with “other gps”. Bunch of BS. My Toga has a pair of G5’s and and IFD 550. Coupled to a century 41 AP. Thing of beauty. If that HSI ever dies on...

    Saratoga best for my flying?

Oh yes I knew that. I just noted you had Lots of baggage! My wife was griping about the August heat while we were on the ground. I told her it would be pretty cool when we climbed to altitude. She rolled her eyes. I delayed turning on the heat just to prove it. For 4 adults the club seating...

    Saratoga best for my flying?

And Fwiw I absolutely love the club seating in my Toga. Kids have more room and stretch out nicely. On more than one occasion I’ve added another adult to our load and had 3 adults and 3 kids (ages 7, 10, 13) in the plane. Stuffed to the gills with beach supplies in the front and rear cargo...

    Saratoga best for my flying?

I feel I have the perfect plane for my family. Wife and 3 kids. NA fixed gear Saratoga. 1980. Club seating. As someone stated above it will literally carry the same stuff we cram in the suburban to get to the airport. 1400 useful makes it a true 6 place airplane if needed. I’ve had 4 adults and...

Foreigner woman - Private pilot license

The hardest part with understanding ATC is anticipating what they are going to say. I’m a 300 hour pilot (I know, very dangerous) and I finished my IFR a little less than a year ago. I’ve used flight following long before the IFR. I think the biggest challenge early on was every single ATC query...

Foreigner woman - Private pilot license

This thread reminds me of my flight a couple weeks back when the controller said “N651ED hadeyu”. I looked at my wife (not a pilot but I was desperate to understand) and she shrugged her shoulders. I asked him to repeat himself... “N651ED hadeyu” (just louder). Again, WTF are you saying...

    Decision on Avidyne Equipment?

If you used it a bit more I think you’d realize that they really serve different purposes, although there can be some overlap in function. I like them both and will occasionally have two iPads to run both apps at same time. One is yoke mount (foreflight) and the panel mount runs IFD 100. Tons...

How worth it is Oshkosh?? Version 2.0

I’ve only been to OSH once and never been to SnF. This debate is making me think I should attend SnF so I can simply have a more educated reply to this thread. Stand by.

    Record for TFR density

If I lived in one of those metro areas I would probably just quit flying. TFR’s are one of the biggest knee jerk legislations I’ve ever seen.

Learn use of constant speed propeller

This! I was just like you and tried to study up all I needed to know before climbing into the Toga with the blue knob. In reality. Just go fly the plane with a CFI. It’ll make sense in the air much more than on paper. Of course have your power settings handy but most good CFI’s would be able...

    G530W - 2 questions

I sold my 530w and installed an IFD 550 in its place. Never looked back. I realize it’s more $ but the improvements in every category are exponential.

What Do I Need Beyond ForeFlight?

What’s the typical mission / plane panel you’ll be flying with? VFR only? IFR? What part of the country ?

    Best budget headset

And the good thing about those bullet proof DC 13.4’s is that they make a solid pax headset for those brief sight seeing flights when you first earn your ppl. That being said I’ve completely retired any non ANR headsets from my plane. My bag consists of: Zulu 2 (primary headset I wear) $400...

    Nobody is immune.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. Just my “low experience” opinion on experience but I think the journey of flying over many years is a struggle between the many factors that make for a safe flight. Obviously experience teaches better skills of piloting the airplane and should teach better...

How crazy is buying a 60 year old 172...

I bought my Toga at what I considered a “red flag” kinda deal.” Hangar rent was due and the widow wanted to sell ASAP to avoid any more expenses on the plane. I just got lucky and saw the barnstormers add first. Yeah I was nervous but there’s risk in buying airplanes. It’s 8k. I’d say if...

Flying Blind - Why VFR pilots get into trouble in the clouds

Tantalum I'm not even in the market for a Cirrus but you sure would make a good salesman for them ;) Seriously, you do make some valid points. With a wife and 3 kids and living in the SE the NA Saratoga fits my current mission much much better. I (very lightly) toy with the idea of a twin but...

Flying Blind - Why VFR pilots get into trouble in the clouds

As I read through this thread I get an idea of why “inadvertent” IMC is still killing pilots quite frequently. Yes, technology is making IFR flight easier but the trade off is a false sense of safety from the SV iPad yielding PPL that’s overly confident with that tech.
