    Bird Encounter

It was a secondary pre-solo XC to do some more VOR/nav work. And yeah, we discussed about not flying over the Rio Grande this time of year for sure. I was climbing still, too. (climbing to 10,500)

    Bird Encounter

Had more excitement that I cared for during my lesson yesterday. Climbing out of KABQ heading down to T or C (KTCS) was at about 7600' when my CFI said "BIRDS!". Saw a huge flock of ducks/geese (unsure, kinda busy trying not to hit them at the time) directly off the nose, at my altitude, and...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Dual cross country today to work on VOR and navigation. Went down to T or C and back. Taking off from ABQ, about 4-5 mins in to the climb my CFI called out BIRDS! We were over the Rio Grande at about 8k' and there was a HUGE flock of geese/ducks straight ahead, at my level, and coming at me...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Good lesson today, going over short/soft field landings/TO's. Got a little windy (really wasn't sure we'd get to go out) and coming back to KABQ it got a little fun. Last 10 minutes or so we were getting tossed all over the place. But my landing was smooth as silk even with the winds, so I was...

Albuquerque Balloon Festival - best GA airport to use?

I just call it "that time of year when our city gets overrun with people, traffic goes crazy, and the tourists like to stop on the side of the road (or IN the road) to look at balloons" but Balloon Fiesta is a little shorter :D

    DIY Home Security Installation (N/A)

When I get home I can check more details, but search Ankke or Annke something like that. And get the PoE version, makes install simpler. I have a 4 camera system if theirs. Friend and I installed in under a day. Granted he’s been a low voltage tech for years and I’m in the biz too.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I'm in a similar boat...been so focused with work the past few months and need to study up on the online ground school I've been using. I have my solo XC's left and some other lessons and that's it (beyond practicing for the checkride).

Narrowest runway you'd be willing to land on?

My instructor took me to Mid Valley to emphasize the importance of center line. It’s 37’ wide! That’s eye-opening when you’re a student with low hours. Looks like we were landing on the 2-lane road next to the airport.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Night cross country last night. Perfect weather around here and it was a great flight. I've realized that for some reason my landings at night are so much smoother than during the day (or I'm just getting better!). Went to Socorro (KONM) for a landing, then back to KABQ for some pattern work...

Albuquerque Balloon Festival - best GA airport to use?

You’re staying close by the fiesta so no worries. As for where to fly in, I’d lean ABQ since you are Ubering. Second would be AEG. Check rates for both. Mid valley is good for fuel and practicing tiny runways. No other services I don’t think. I’m trying out of ABQ at Del Sol and get in to...

    Skier's anxiety

Durango got dumped on about a week or so ago and I heard the resort was doing well. Wolf Creek is likely fine, as always. Not sure though. NM is pretty bad. It's been hot here all winter. Santa Fe only has a 24" base and like 18 runs open Taos has a 20" base :( and 23 trails open Red River has...

Ways Flight Schools Cheat Their Students

Exactly. I my airport it can take anywhere from 10-25+ minutes from the time I start the engine until I even take off. Really depends on the day (and me doing everything correctly and efficiently, I know that plays in to it). Getting a departure window can take a handful of minutes from time to...

Ways Flight Schools Cheat Their Students

I pay $140/hr for a 172N with steam gauges...CFI is $55/hr (he gets about half of that apparently, so pretty decent for a normal school).

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Sounds like a great flight! I've got my night dual cross country on Friday, looking forward to it. Right now the plan is to head to Socorro and back, but we'll see as the day gets closer. Hopefully the weather cooperates, looking windy later in the week here.
