So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Knocked out my first, shorter, XC solo thins morning. KABQ -> KONM -> KABQ Not too bad, couple of curveballs thrown at me, mostly due to my lack of flying over the summer. But all in all a great day. Landing in Socorrow wasn't awesome, little high and fast, so floated a while and a slight...

    Flying Club

So I'll have my PPL finally in a few months and I've looked around for flying clubs in my area. Slim pickings, to say the least. Some of you in more active areas, count your blessings. Anyway, there's one I found last night on AOPA that looks appealing. They have 1 plane, a 1956 Cessna 172...

    BasicMed question

It's easier to get in and see the AME than get an appointment with my doc, though. Think the AME will sign BasicMed?

    BasicMed question

Sorry if this is elementary or been covered, but I'm a little confused. Background: 48yrs old, student pilot, my 3rd class medical was obtained Oct 21, 2016 (so expires end of this month for me). Under BasicMed, I have to see a physician every 48 months, does the visit in Oct 2016 qualify so...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Did my stage check today with another CFI. Pretty windy today, but everything went great. Start off going over the flight plan I did the day before. Questions parts of it, why did you choose that altitude, how did you come up with X, stuff like that. Went over the sectional and quizzed on air...

    Student Landing Issue

The mental break in the middle of a bunch of landings helped me a lot when I was struggling. I would ask my CFI to show me a good one so I get a fresh, clean visual in my head. Then I would take back over and do some more.

Weird thought on 360 deg. turns

I have a few times, in steep 360's. If you hold your altitude and complete the turn where you started in the air, you run through your own wake and get a little jolt, usually right before or as you level your wings. First time it happens is freaky. I imagine in a slower, less banked 360, you...

Flight cancelled due to wind - where can I get wind (and other) data?

I really like the app I got called "TAKEOFF", you can set your preferences and you'll get yellow/red notices so at a glance you can tell what's going on. It also grabs the details from all the area fields, etc. There's lots of good apps and sites out there, find one YOU like.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

So I've had to take the past nearly 5 months off (had a few lessons after this post) to take care of my father. His condition worsened and he passed away at the end of June. He battled cancer for 16 years and the last ~2 were progressively worse. Anyway, this was a dream of his as much as mine...

    Cost of Written Exams?

Ugh, I paid $415 for my flight lesson on Sunday...1.6 hours flight and 2.6 ground total (I asked for additional ground to cover some things prior to the flight).

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

First lesson in a month today. Went and practiced short and softs. My first approach was atrocious, to put it nicely. Turned late and wide on base-to-final, then late and wide trying to correct. Still a clean landing, but the set up was horrendous. All my landings were nice, though. My shorts...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I've been side-tracked the past handful of weeks. Last flight was on February 10th. Then I had to go take care of my dad, who was having brain surgery (surgery went well, in and out in 48 hours! Modern medicine is truly amazing). Once back, I had to travel for work, and then this week has been...
