First Solo! - 18 years after my first logbook entry

Thanks all! I don't have any pics of the setup but can get some later this week. In fact, the mounting location was somewhat of an experiment - when it came time to solo, my instructor got out and I swung around and slapped the GP suction mount to the side window, aimed it roughly where I...

First Solo! - 18 years after my first logbook entry

8/17/95 is the first entry in my logbook, 1.0 hr intro flight around KGRI. I was 15 at the time and pursuing this crazy dream to be a pilot. But, life happened and flying had to take a back seat to other priorities. In total, I logged 8.6 hours that summer before hanging up the headset. Fast...

Writeup of my first solo Long XC

Nice write-up. Thanks for going through the time to put it together and post it for us - I'm almost to that point in my training and it's nice to see how others go about their flight and the train of thought.

    Door open

Yep - but at only about 45 knots or so and in a Cherokee 180. I have a small amount of time in an SR20 of the vintage for which the doors were notorious for not getting closed and popping open at inconvenient times. So, with that background, my CFI and I had talked about it several times in...

Very cool - I'd be interested in knowing more about this as well!

Opportunity of a lifetime, and GoPro help

Lucky dog! I was given a sortie in Stallion 51's Mustang for a birthday a few years back but had to ask for a refund when the wife objected (we were newlyweds, she was concerned for my safety, blah-ditty-blah - and YES, I know what you're thinking, but a refund was cheaper than a divorce)...

    GoPro and available cables

Something like this might work if you then got the standard 3.5mm plug headset audio adapter (realize that means discarding the $40 one you probably already purchased with the mini USB connector): http://www.amazon.com/Mini-USB-Headset-Adapter-2-5mm-3-5mm/dp/B002HNTHKM/ref=sr_1_77?s=electronics...

    Denver Later this Month

Do you guys ever meet on the north side of town - say, closer to BJC or thereabouts? Would love to join and meet y'all someday (if you'd let me). :) Thanks, Trevor

GoPro camera on the headset.... attemp 2

Wow! Great job on the mount - will have to try that. This seems like the perfect excuse for me to get another GoPro and use it in conjunction with my suction cup mounted one on the side window. :) Yep, the Hero 3 uses mini USB (which, honestly is a bit of a pain but it works).

    Two Colorado Front Range Events

A group I've been meaning to join - with an up to date events calendar as a bonus! thanks! :)

    Flight simulator

Yep - the potential is definitely there. Though, with advances in aircraft and scenery, my experience has been that most simmers no long fly with 2D, instrument only views of their panels. This has (fortunately) pushed one's viewpoint out the windows, through true VFR flying is somewhat less...

    Two Colorado Front Range Events

Honestly, the best place I've found for keeping up on Colorado flying events is actually the Colorado aviation photography Facebook group. They seem to get most of the events going on in the state posted to their calendar. I suppose I'm too new to know what PoA has to track events and how...

    Two Colorado Front Range Events

I'm the webmaster for the Longmont Airport Expo and just wanted to say thanks for passing along the info for our event. It's a FREE event open to all and we expect to have a great time this year - lots to see and do and a whole slew of "cool" aircraft. So far we have 10+ aircraft signed up for...

    Flight simulator

I've logged around 6,000-ish simulated hours on MS Flight Sim, having been at it since I was a pre-teenager and MSFS was in its infancy. I recently started "real world" flight training again after a 13 year hiatus (and 10.5 original hours logged) and I'd like to think that at least some of the...
