    Know anyone with a Luscombe?

Unfortunately, I do not. I would guess that a quick call to Jo at Skywalker (i.e. the owner) would get you that info though.

Calculating the Rent vs Buy equation

Can't we call it polyamorous rather than polygamous? One is fun and the other is kind of icky...

    Know anyone with a Luscombe?

I would second the recommendation to check this one out, just be aware that if you fly it your expectations of what a 'normal' Luscombe's performance will be might be a bit skewed - this one is a bit of a hotrod with IIRC an O-320 and flaps added. Edit: no affiliation other than taking some...

    Wings coming off

But the spar only knows/cares about stress, not g loading: 2k lbf is the same it it whether the airplane is at 1g or 2g.

    Starship...?

We saw one parked in northern Michigan this summer.

Aircraft Stalls as Skydivers Prepare to Jump

Yikes! Late this summer, we were skirting around an active parachute area and saw jumpers both before and during the canopy opening - closer than I expected to the edge of the charted parachute area, but not close like that. I think that my wife almost did a spit take when I called them meat...

Product Recommendations Sought - Tire Pressure Gauge and Inflator

If you have an available source of compressed air, I really like this inflator - I have bought 3 so far (one for home and 2 for work), and when I checked the gauges against a master pressure gauge at work they were all <0.1 psi. Plus it seems to have decent flow rates in both directions - a...

    Pickup truck loading

Full disclosure: I am a Ford employee, and the Maverick is my current project, any posts that I make are my personal opinion only though. The pricing, capability, and fuel economy of this vehicle seem to be hitting some sort of sweet spot in the market at the moment. I am not a huge fan of...

    Pickup truck loading

The Ford Maverick (HEV or 2.0l) would do that easily and the HEV is rated for 40+ mpg in the city (without the trailer).

    A towing question...

Also, if you buy a new F150 you can use the new onboard scales feature to estimate the tongue load for you. I think that it was just announced yesterday, a bit of an explainer here: https://jalopnik.com/this-is-how-the-ford-f-150s-taillight-scales-work-1847857611 Full disclosure: I work for...

    A towing question...

I have always thought that this is a great demonstration of trailer stability vs. tongue load (it also gets less stable as vehicle speed increases):

    A towing question...

At work, it is easy with drive on scales and a jack that spans the trailer scales for the tongue... In the real world, I tend to measure hitch deflection unloaded vs. with someone of known mass standing on the bumper then compare how much the hitch deflects when the trailer is lowered onto it...

    A towing question...

It is usually best to target tongue load of 10-15% of total trailer (+ cargo) mass from a stability standpoint for a tag trailer. If that is too much for the vehicle's Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating, then switch over to a load distributing hitch and shift some of that tongue load to the front...

    Extremely minor aviation pet peeves...

I always want to make a t shirt with a stick figure of someone holding a roll of toilet paper in one hand and a bottle of mouth wash in the other with the caption "ATM Machine" just to see what percentage of the population gets it.

EAA Museum (Oshkosh) vs. Air Zoo (Kalamazoo)

I haven't been to the Air Zoo, so can't answer your question... but being POA I can hyjack the thread and say that for a similar flight legnth, I would consider going to the Wright Patterson Airforce Museum instead.

    Because it's Illegal

Often it is tire speed ratings, but sometimes also other things like prop-shaft bending modes that get excited by small imbalances and halfshaft angles that cause excessive heat/ballooning of the CV joint boots due to aerodynamic downforce. Just two of the stranger reasons that I have seen that...

    Are pilots true multitaskers?

I can't directly correlate this to flying (though I suspect it still holds true), but when I teach car control/driving a vehicle beyond it's tire's limits I definitely see a difference between someone very new at performing the task (read seeming task saturated and unable to do other mental...

No new questions on POA so here is a new old question - prop tip speed and noise
