FCC Warns Against Foolishness on Guard

You have to take it off squelch to hear an ELT? Maybe I should be doing that.

    Another crash in CT

The lose altitude comment was referring to the crash 2 weeks ago that happened at Danbury Airport. The article is a little confusing.

http://www.newstimes.com/local/article/Reported-plane-crash-in-New-Milford-11750399.php#photo-13676055 Yes it was N1727V. It's from Arrow Aviation at Danbury, the same flight school that had a C172 crash on July 30. In that previous crash, it appears that flying overweight was the most likely...

It came from Danbury. One of the news articles has pictures with the N number visible. It looks like it was from the same flight school as the C172 that crashed two weeks ago...

Privacy: Basic Med vs Class 3

Your most recent medical certificate info will stay in there even after it lapses and you're flying under BasicMed, so that vision message won't go away.

FCC Warns Against Foolishness on Guard

My CFI would just hit the PTT for a few seconds mid-sentence when they started blabbing on the CTAF.

    Advice in switching CFI's

What a moron. I'm sure he never imagined that it would shatter the windshield, but it could easily have clogged up the primary air intake.

    Advice in switching CFI's

Wow I can't believe that shattered the windshield. I came within 100 feet of hitting a cluster of balloons about 5 years ago.

    Advice in switching CFI's

I would say 4 hours is a little early to be able to judge the quality of your CFI unless they're a total a**hole or they're on the controls more than 10% of the time or something.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but what's the story behind that? Or is there another thread where you discussed it?

    Flying club online calendar/scheduling options

Mine too. I'm pretty sure it's the only website I've been to in the last 15 years that has a password login web page that's not "https". If you go to "My Profile" it actually displays your password in plane text. Definitely have to use a throw-away password for it.

    Cost of Written Exams?

I did my written test at a nearby Part 141 flight school. I thought all the written tests were at places like that. Interesting that there are general testing centers that decided to do FAA tests.

OMG... talk about increasing ATC workload during OSH

They could issue a TFR to accomplish the same thing.

    Cost of Written Exams?

If I remember correctly, that's exactly what I paid 5 years ago. That was with a $10 discount for being an AOPA member.

The New England Patriots are the first NFL team with there own team airplane.

I wonder if they factored in the cost of repainting the tail every time they win another Superbowl. That's going to get expensive ;)

    Vision exam question

I'm completely blind with out my contacts. When I went to the AME he wanted me to take out my contacts to test my uncorrected vision, but I didn't bring a lens case and solution with me. I told him to just put whatever number he would put if I couldn't even read the top line and it wasn't an issue.

    Eclipse Glasses?

His post was right after mine about my dad having regular burn patients as a result of people leaving their stove or oven on Fri-Sun as a loophole around the no touching buttons and dials thing. That to me is very nutty. I find the whole forgoing certain foods and activities during Lent thing...
