Purchasing an airplane just for parts?

I know of a 401 that doesn't need the spar AD for another 400 hours, does need an annual but has 2 working engines and a 3rd core with bad bearings (worth something right?), that has an owner willing to sell for about 25k and can't get it sold. Twins are cheap, until you own it

Hold short lines that force you onto the parallel taxiway

If a controller really wants to go through the hassle of filling out violation paperwork because I completly vacated a runway after landing and coincidently blocked a taxiway, without being given any instructions in contrary... They can have at it, total waste of time. Remember those guys are...

Hold short lines that force you onto the parallel taxiway

Pull onto the taxiway. If someone is there, time your roll. In most scenarios, taxing off a runway into an airplane is a bad idea. From there the controller will work a way for the two of you to pass each other. Follow instructions and try not to make things more complicated than they are

Passengers Report Stolen SeaTac Plane, Grounded Flights

I keep hearing from non pilot folks that this is going to mean more TSA and security measures. Why!? If there is anything to be done here, it is to require anybody working on a ramp should be required to carry a 3rd class medical certificate or similar. But would a doctor have noticed this...

What's the deal with Mooney at Airventure?

I’ve been wanting a Mooney for a while, and a few months away from spending a pretty penny as a move is prompting the need for a good plane. The pathetic hospitality from the staff at Mooney and Diamond have ruled both of those brands out. I guess they only want to sell planes to guys that wear...

    Cleared to...

Cleared as filed is one of the scariest things a controller can say. Me: Ready to copy long clearance Controller: “cleared to K... as filed” Me to self: “$#%# what did I file?” Me: “cleared to K... as fiiiiiled (scared voice)

Cessna 414 down near John Wayne - 5 Dead

I feel like I am on here too often saying "I knew that guy" but I used to share an office with the pilot. He used to have a 182. When he got that 414 it seemed like he spent more time in the POH than he spent working. Never flew with him but he did show me it a few times. I thought it was a nice...

    Commercial Pilot Insurance

I have had my commercial rating for some time now but haven’t any “jobs”. Recently I have started to fly for a local company and they put me on the plane’s insurance policy “named insured”. Is there another insurance I should have? Avemco says a non-owner policy only covers personal use, I...

    Slower aircraft descending in front

Normally, a plane converging from a different direction would be less of a conversation. It was just really amusing how the guy was on my exact same route below me and I had concern for him. It’s also amusing to me how the added traffic awareness of abs-b gave me some sense of urgency that I...

    Slower aircraft descending in front

To clarify. We were both entering the class delta on a 45, he was just a mile or so behind me when i called up tower. and once I was talking to tower all thoughts of letting him pass left my mind. I kept my speed up knowing he was behind me but that was it.

    Slower aircraft descending in front

Had an interesting situation I really hadn’t come across before. I was almost home in my archer and a slightly faster airplane commander) made a turn 2500’ below and 2 miles behind me on the exact same direction. I only knew they were there because they were on my gtn. As I began to descend our...

    Long XC in Cessna 150?

The day before my instrument checkride I realized I was 7 hours short on my xc time. I flew a 150 from El Paso, tx to Santa Fe, NM and back. It was over 100 degrees and had to answer “unable” when Albuquerque approach asked me to climb to 8500’... I was by myself. Another time I was given a...

    Who Has the Right-of-Way?

It comes down to situational awareness and a little courtesy. If it’s severe vmc and the pattern is full, the guy on the approach needs to maneuver if they can’t fit in. Now if it’s 700 overcast and someone is putting around the pattern just barely in class g, they need to give way to the guy...
