Flying from Henderson NV to Salinas

It is a Gobosh 700. It is a 100 HP S-LSA, but I have flown it into Leadville CO and other high altitude places multiple times in the past. Shawn.. thanks for that. Great info. Do you usually have decent luck with flight following out that way? I have heard the extremes out of Vegas that...

stolen aircraft and Avionics where do they go

We just had a fatal in southeast Colorado near Trinidad last week. Interestingly, the plane had been reported as missing in northern Colorado a few months ago. It was a Zenith 701. It should be interesting to hear the rest of that story. Carl

Flying from Henderson NV to Salinas

I am looking at flying from Colorado Springs out to the Salinas AOPA fly-in in a couple weeks. I plan to go from KFLY to KHND on the first day, and then the second leg on day two. Of course it is still a question of the weather. What I am curious about is thoughts from those who have flown...

Plane down Colorado Springs - No Injuries

There was one at Gettysburg with a guy named Tim Boyer. I am not sure if it is still there, or if he still rents it out. You may want to check with the FBO there. If you end up TDY back out this way, let me know. I own one and have it parked at KFLY as well. Carl

Plane down Colorado Springs - No Injuries

Gitmo, if you are still interested in flying one, they have a couple to rent up in Denver at Aspen Flying Club. Carl

    Sun and fun turnout?

I think it was decent turnout. I gave forums Thursday and Friday. Between the 3 forums I probably had a little over 50 people attend. Not too bad considering one of them was in Paradise City and they unfortunately never posted the forums schedule for PC on the web site. Carl

    What's the best Garmin GPS??

I had a 496 installed in my plane. I like it, but the screen was just too small and if you wanted to interact with airspace and other things you needed to hook on the screen, using the cursor around was a bit of a pain. I sold it and got a 796. The 796 is outstanding. I have used it for the...

    Oskosh 2015 w/the Chief

I will be flying in the Air Venture Cup race again this year. For those who haven't heard of it, check it out here airventurecuprace.com for more info. It is great fun and last year was my first time as a racer. My wife was my co-pilot and did an outstanding job calling out traffic on the...

Great Customer Service from Lightspeed on Zulu PFX

I tested the PFX at OSH last year and really liked the way they sounded. I had a pair of Zulu 2's and loved them. When they announced the trade in/upgrade of the 2 for the PFX, I sent in one of the two Zulu 2's and kept one to compare. Having done some longer cross countries with the PFX, I...

Flight Following and Entering Class B

I get cleared through the Denver Bravo about 90% of the time. I think if you sound like you have a plan, they seem very open to letting you in and through the Bravo. I wish more people would use flight following. It is simply safer. Carl

Unfortunate accident at Light Sport Expo

I unfortunately saw the entire incident through the crash. It was the first accident I have seen in person and I hope to never see another. I can't tell you if it was a mechanical failure or not. To myself and the other pilot walking with me, it appeared he got pretty slow and turned pretty...

    Carbon Cub from Cubcrafters

The RANS S-7 is another option for a Cub-alike that is available as a factory built for a little over $100K as a S-LSA or in kit form as E-AB. It is a nice little plane and provides very good useful load ~575 pounds. It carries 26 gallons of gas, which with the Rotax 912, one option for power...

    My Sport Pilot experiance

Congrats man.. go get that check ride. I was flying my Gobosh out here in Colorado the other late afternoon. Very cold, and even at 6840 ft field elevation I was getting over 1200 FPM climb rate. The plane performs really well. Looking forward to seeing them post about your check ride on the...

    Remos here I come!

I don't think there is anything wrong with a little bit of power still in on landing. I have over 400 hours flying LSA's and I land with power sometimes, as required. They are not the same as flying heavier planes and they take what they take to get nicely down to the ground. Glad to hear you...

    Sport pilot or private pilot?

I initially got my SP and then got my PPL. The check ride was nearly identical except for the flight by reference to instruments part on the private. I have literally flown my LSA all over the country as a Sport Pilot. given your friend's desires, I would go SP. Carl

    Remos here I come!

As a prior sport pilot and LSA owner, I would say I agree at least partially with the nose gear weakness comment. I would say however, it can depend on the plane. Also on the comment about them being heavier.. in the club I belong to, they had three Goboshes, a Remos, and a Piper Sport. The...

    2015 Oshkosh Hotel prices...WTF!?!

I stayed in the dorms the last two years and it was great. The bus is easy to use and cheap. Not only are hotels expensive, the rental cars from all of the airports in the area were outrageous this year as well. Carl
