    O-320-H2AD

I still have the H2AD engine in my 172 it's been good. The other draw back to the low utilization engines is the lifters and cam. The lifters are easy to pull and inspect. I look at mine every other annual. call me crazy but I like working with the dual mag too.

    Another emergency in the books

A Piper distributor would replace the ref. air hoses every year, they must of had a bad experience. I still think that's going overboard but I do replace them anytime the nozzles are removed. The GAMI nozzles don't have the removable Venturi and can be a bit tough to find and remove the rubber...

    Another emergency in the books

The times I've had partially blocked nozzle on the TIO540 in the Mirage it felt like the engine was going to fail. As the power came down for landing it smoothed out dramatically. Many times I would find black rubber particles in the nozzle that came from the short reference air hoses that is...

    Cherokee 6 strut sticking

Blue silicone, I've seen it before. Could you have a late 70s six. It could have been what I remember Piper was using in place of the top o-ring back the old days. No joke.

When should isopropyl alcohol be added to fuel?

It wasn't just my Malibu. The freezing fuel line/ fuel nozzle issue has been an issue for a number of PA46-310P aircraft. I answer the MMOPA maintenance hotline and get the same story. Since 1984 we have added the alcohol to the fuel when worried about the issue in the winter. There has never...

When should isopropyl alcohol be added to fuel?

I added 8 oz of 99% isopropyl to each tank on my Malibu during every other fill up in the winter. It's not fun when you loose a cylinder or two at FL250. You're coming down to much warmer air very quickly. I never had another problem with fuel system icing after my one event. The fuel flow...

    Really bad PA46 accident

They say that much power above the flight idle stop will hold it into a flat spin.

    Working at an FBO

I always love working line service in my high school days and during my many months at Spartan School in Tulsa. I think you will like summers the best. Winter nights can be a drag. I worked for a Piper dealer at the Riverside Airport that mirrored my father's FBO in KS. I hope you have fun!

Plane in annual, should I do a pre-purchase

Do a pre-purchase by all means. I don't know how many I do every year but some of the worst aircraft had just come out of annual too. 950 hr 2012 Meridian needed all of the compressor turbine blades replaced from FOD. No warranty coverage for that and the nozzles were out for flow check and...

What's fun to do as PAX on a commercial flight?

Drowning out the crying baby noise with Bose headset and some good pod casts. It makes my trips more tolerable. Downing wine or beer really doesn't give me that much joy on my trips anymore. I think I'm still evolving on my travel comfort.

    Worst Christmas Movie

Starwars Christmas Special. ( a must see ) Not really a movie but one really lousy show. The studio destroyed their copies. All that exists are VCR copies on YouTube.

What do you hate about your plane?

I hate that I don't have any time to fly it. Our 172 has been a great airplane and the kids would like to fly when they come to visit. I'll get the annual done someday. At least it's a great place to keep cars.

Is it possible to start an Air Charter/Maintenance company and make a profit?

I can't speak for the charter end but you can do very well in the maintenance. It really takes a specialty market, huge volume, a lot of mechanics, and all of your time and effort. I say go for it! It exceeded my expectations. I never would have guessed that my spouse would make the best partner.

    How difficult to move edm700

I've moved a lot of them. It mainly comes down to how much harness is available. I always leave enough extra under the panel when I install them to where they can be moved easily in the future.

    4 Bolts

I can't believe that only four 3/8" bolts hold the PA46's 350 hp engine in place. Jetprop uses the same four bolts when they install an extra 200 hp turbine engine in one. I guess they've been overbuilt.

    Aviation family?

Four generations counting my children. Our family history started with my Grandfather in the 20s. My father learned to fly in his father's OX5 powered Travel air. My father flew corporate jets and did flight instruction too. My father taught me to fly and my brother instructed me for...
