You always could, just not with the Gross Weight Increase STC. Except for the 700, stock GW is 6,000.

It depends on the airplane. The Gipps GA-8 you can remove none or all the seats. So some aircraft have varying configurations of number of seats. But the PA-32 that started the number change, from my understanding you can fly with or without the 7th seat.

Current Pilot going for part 107

For pilots, it is VERY easy. Hardest part is finding an instructor to do the IACRA stuff. And that wasn't hard at all.

Why do we switch fuel tanks before landing?

Exactly. And every 30 minutes is excessive. The GFC-500 autopilot in my plane says maintain the fuel within 10 gallon difference between wings. But that means, first change is about 35 - 45 minutes for takeoff and climb and some cruise to burn 10 gallons. But the next change is 2 hours later...

Well, there is the reg that requires a seat with seatbelt for each occupant. So more people than seats is not authorized. So taking seats out could be interpreted to limiting the aircraft to that number of passengers.

Why do we switch fuel tanks before landing?

Another point to consider, some aircraft have a minimum fuel in a tank for take off. Probably a good idea to have at least the much in the tank you are using for landing, in case of a go around.

Because FAA interpreted the Authorized as Certified. So that made it so. But Chevron means it can be taken into the courts and have them decide if it is the same. And the point was, they used Authorized instead of Certified for seats, but used the term Certified for Gross Weight. So they...

The "Back in my day" Thread

Do the math. He saved 2 cents per gallon. 10 gallons means he saved 20 cents. 20 cents was 0.873 gallons. I don't think he burned that much in starting and crossing the street. :D

The "Back in my day" Thread

Just found my school phone book from high school. No area codes. 1) You only needed to use them for long distance calls. 2) Everyone had the same area code as there was only ONE for the entire state. Now there are 6 (Maryland).

Why are ramp checks allowed when random traffic stops are not?

Funny thing is, the only time I have been ramp checked, so far, I had a friend's T-34 at an airshow and not carrying any passengers to fly in the show. It was not a bad experience.

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

You, as the PIC make those parameters. But you make then outside of planning any specific trip. Such as, Go only if ceiling is forecast to be 1000 feet or higher. Then when the day comes, you check the weather and the ceiling is forecast 900, you don't go, as you have not met YOUR Go parameter.

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

Agreed. But most people are set to Go and only cancel if things are bad enough. Gethomeitis is a form of this.

    Panel

A slight warning on the Hangar Flying panel builder, some of the sizes are slightly off. So your avionics shop may need to tweak things to get them to fit as you plan. I used them for the basic layout, then worked with my shop to lay out the actual panel. And I had to change some things to...

Interesting thread on BT. The language is AUTHORIZED for no more than 7 occupants. NOT Certified. But the GW limit does say Certified. Maybe a big deal with the recent Chevron decision. Next change, hopefully raising the altitude limit. Maybe use FL290, the start of RVSM.

    Log book theft?

IMO, best way it to scan the logs and provide a PDF copy if someone needs the logs. As work is done, the A&P/IA does a signed sticker that YOU place in the logs. Then every so often, scan the new entries and append them to the big PDF. It doesn't help the OP, but can help someone else avoid a...

Why are ramp checks allowed when random traffic stops are not?

I have been stopped a couple of times without the current registration in the car. No big deal, they looked it up.

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

Except that people suffer from continuation bias. "I am going unless things are so bad to convince me not to go." Versus, "If things are good, I may go, otherwise I will not go." Even using PAVE and IMSAFE, they need overwhelming proof of bad things to change them from going.
