    GTN 750 and airways

Yes- thanks...I thought I tried this and didn’t see “Load Airway” unless I had the VOR in the flight plan. But I just tried it on the GTN Trainer app and it works exactly as you say. Thanks - definitely pilot error in this case.

    GTN 750 and airways

On a recent IFR flight to KISP, I got cleared “direct BRIGS, V139, SARDI, CCC, KISP”. Normally, I find it easiest to type this into ForeFlight and send it to the panel via the FS510 in my GTN 750. It’s pretty much just enter the clearance verbatim, then “send to panel”. But this time, I...

    Path to TXi cockpit

Different twist on this question... I already have a G500, 750/650, etc but the original analog engine gauges. Adding a JPI 930 is about $12K installed. Would I do better to install the 930, or should I put this money towards upgrading my G500 to a TXi and going with Garmin’s engine monitoring?

How do IFR flights to non-towered airports work?

There were a lot of good answers, but I thought I’d mention the possibility of a missed approach as a reason not to cancel IFR in the air. Sure, if it’s 3000’ and 5-10 miles visibility, no problem canceling IFR since you can pretty well be sure you can complete the flight VFR. But what do you...

Tire kicker or serious buyers only

Wait. So you own an expensive item you want to sell, and the total audience of potential buyers is maybe a few thousand people...and you think you have some special wisdom that lets you intentionally ignore some of those prospective buyers? Seems like the height of arrogance for a seller to...

Is it this hard for everyone?

There’s a ton of construction at KSUT. I’m hoping when it’s all done I can find a hangar there - if anyone has any leads, please feel free to let me know. Otherwise, I’ll probably just end up in Wilmington 45 minutes away.

Is it this hard for everyone?

Yes, we already did that...most of our flying is two up front and maybe our English Bulldog in the back - can't really imagine having much use for the 5th seat.

Is it this hard for everyone?

I thought I’d resurrect this thread for the simple reason that I finally found my airplane! After lots of soul-searching, I decided what I really wanted was a nice F33A Bonanza, and that it would take maybe 10% more than the budget I started with. But the real game-changer was admitting that I...

    Critique my Alaska/Canada survival kit

It’s a small thing, but I carry a small foldable solar cell...it’s about the size of a magazine and in full sun, puts almost 20 watts into a standard USB output. Charges my phone or my handheld radio in about four hours of good sun.

I didn’t want to use the person’s name without permission, but yes, there’s a real winner.

Flying to New-York tie down informations

As someone who lives in the area, KISP is my preference, mainly because it’s close to a LIRR station that has very good NYC service - express trains every 15 minutes or so during peak times. Plus, there are lots of “big airport” services like car rental, etc. Note that the Class C there is...

For Sale Free to good home...

Just wanted to update everyone... So far, I've only received a handful of responses, so I've decided to keep the competition open for another few days before I pick a winner. Thanks to all that reached out to me, and hang in there - no decisions made yet.

Wow...24 hours and no responders - I’m surprised.

For Sale Free to good home...

In the spirit of giving something back to the aviation community, I have some used pilot gear I’d like to donate to an up and coming student pilot. The gear includes: A large ballistic nylon flight bag, nearly new. A pair of older (late 1980s) David Clark headsets. One has been upgraded to...

Nice looking arrow - looks way nicer than the one I fly.

Is it this hard for everyone?

Yes, I'm pretty familiar with Arrows - while my search lingers on, that's what I'm mostly flying. The one I fly isn't a Turbo, so it's pretty slow - like 130-140 knots depending on altitude - and it seems to be a maintenance hog, as it's been in the shop way too often for me, sometimes for weeks...

Is it this hard for everyone?

I know that as a group, pilots are an affluent bunch, but I'm wondering what the financing and insurance companies are thinking about valuations. An example is a plane I looked at recently...the three valuation services gave me numbers from $175K to $200K based on equipment and condition, but...

Is it this hard for everyone?

A lot of commenters make the point about getting a serious offer out as quickly as possible, so let me ask how everyone decides what a "fair" offer should be. Has anyone found any of the aircraft valuation services worthwhile (vRef, Aviation Bluebook, NIAA, etc), and if so, what number do you...
