    Future of GPS

This. There will never be a "perfect" time to buy something.

    Installation Costs Rule of Thumb?

Oh, I get that. The shop that did mine said the same thing. The quotes I got for the same install varied quite a bit from one shop to another.

    Installation Costs Rule of Thumb?

The quotes I got locally a few years ago for a audio panel install were eye opening because of the disparity. I think shop rates and experience will alter the quote more than anything else. I've seen people on here that were given "pay me a lot of extra hours to learn on your install" quotes.

    Aircraft Loan Refinancing?

I initially financed my plane, also. It got me flying earlier, and the payment wasn't an issue. Sometimes the benefit outweighs the risk, but it's definitely a personal decision.

    G500 to G500txi, Compelling Upgrade?

Yeah, I agree about the bezels. I didn't think I was stepping into glass, but I did one panel, and then I wanted to redundancy. You know how it goes. The Aspen allowed me to do it in smaller bites.

    G500 to G500txi, Compelling Upgrade?

I have a dual Aspen setup, and that's one thing I'm jealous of with the G3X displays--no bezel between the screens.

    GNX 375 Install, keep DME?

I've got a functional DME, and it's getting yanked once I redo the aluminum panel itself.

stec 50 to 55x upgrade. Is it worth it?

They are selling refurbs. I believe it's a $2800 upgrade. The auto pitch trim is $3800 extra. Plus cost of install/removal. BTW I have manual trim in my mooney. Does the 55x offer enough capability to make it worth it? I'm getting ready to cut my panel, and the form factor is different...

    I ran the numbers

I wouldn't move to central America. You'd have to get the Garmin package which is more expensive to include those countries. :D

    Mooney gone?

I remember at one of the Mooney Summits in Panama City, the speaker made a comment about mooney pilots. Most are not overweight (by much, lol). If you look around the room, there were a few with some weight on their bones, but for the most part, mooney pilots aren't "thick." You have to walk...

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

I agree. He offered to fix it at a lower shop rate but I'll just go elsewhere. I've lost confidence at this point. They did have a service manual; I supplied it. Lol.

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

The flap pump is a neat setup once you look it over. I think they thought the rings were nylon and therefore a little rough with them. The flaps worked 100% before the annual and not since. If you look closely, you can see gouges where the ballbearing no longer seats correctly. The original...

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

In all fairness, I think the IA is very thorough. It was their first time breaking into a mooney flamp pump, and they didn't realize the parts were so delicate. Probably could have happened to anyone. I just believe you make things right.

fair enough. I appreciate everyone's feedback. Just needed to vent.

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

I've already had them manufactured, and I've already paid for them. If I were an IA, I would just do it myself.

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

good point. we had the mooney service manual. All the seals were ordered ahead of time. For whatever reason, that teflon insert is the unicorn horn. Does not exist. I even called LASAR whos is arguably the most informed mooney source around, and he had nothing to offer.

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

We're probably talking a few hundred dollars worth of labor and hydraulic fluid at this point. I didn't know if there were some channels up the FAA chain I could send a report. I'm just kinda hurt that he's potentially calling it a day. I'm going to give it a few weeks to let him get back in...

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

That wasn't even mentioned. I think he feels he invested a lot of time already and just doesn't want to deal with it. I can understand his frustration, but it all originated from his A&P damaging the inserts. I'll look at the specifics to make sure it 100% qualifies as an owner-produced part...

what are options if IA causes damage to your plane?

My issue is somewhat minor but aggravating. I have an older mooney with manual flaps. The pump had a small leak at its last annual, so I told him to replace the seals. The A&P under him took the pump itself apart, and there are two teflon ring inserts. They apparently are very soft and he...
