    Stupid pilot tricks in Colorado

While training at EGE I once forgot to richen the mixture after descending from 13000, as soon as I pulled the throttle over the numbers the engine died and I made a very quiet landing. Had to tell the controller why I was parked on the runway with a Piaggio about to land immediately after me...

Steamboat Springs finds a new use for all that snow

I have been into Steamboat quite a bit in the winter, never on an icy runway though. This is a great idea, and could be implimented in the winter even with very little snow. A small one gun snowmaking system down there could crank out enough snow in about a week to make this happen. It's an...

    The Airport Game

One of the tools I use for planning local flights around things taller than me is Google Earth. It's great for being able to visualize a route, as well as viewing GPS tracks post flight. Anyhow, looking around the other day for a new place to fly, reminded me of a game we used to play on...

Pilot watches theft from his home from C-182

Glad I'm not the only one who caught that. Ha EDIT: Oops, a full day behind! Guess everyone caught it. I use a Zulu2 with bluetooth for the cell, it is awesome.

    Colorado POA

We have two Cherokee 235s up here. Just made a trip to CYS, ran into some ice heading home last week, landed at FNL for a few hours. That and one trip to COS is the extent of my non mountain flying! A bit of heli time in AK too. Won't be able to make it this weekend, but maybe a few weeks...

    Family night flight

One of the best flights I have ever flown was from KEGE to KGJT at night. Middle of January with fresh snow and a full moon. Flying over the oil fields in the mountains is a pretty amazing sight. Sadly, convincing my wife to fly at night in the mountains is near impossible. I am thinking a night...

    Restaurants around Aspen

Across from the airport is Blue Sky Cafe. Good food, good prices, but closed Fri, Sat, Sun. :dunno: Heading into town, there are some awesome places. Greatful Deli is the best sandwich place, better than Johnny McGuire's I think, but I am warming up to them too. If your looking for a good...

Fall colors are specactular in the Aspen area right now

I'm based out of Glenwood Springs, and I agree, the colors this year are pretty awesome. I haven't flown the crystal valley since spring, but going into Aspen on Monday was amazing. If your going to Leadville this weekend, I'd recomend a detour through Hagerman and over to Eagle...
