    V-280 Flies

You can hear that thing coming two zip codes away, but it is pretty cool.

    V-280 Flies

This is the new (this video is from 2014) hotness. It's pretty amazing. I've seen it pick up a barbed wire fence short final. @Bell206, I saw that configuration the other day as well. I have to wonder what twin M240's have over miniguns, minus the mini's needing AC or DC power?

    V-280 Flies

What does "go in fast and dust off" mean? Do you mean brownout, such as being enveloped in a dust cloud immediately before touchdown? If so, there's technology now to mitigate that, it's incredible. I'd bet it will be included on this aircraft. One more thing I'd add is I'm pretty sure these...

    V-280 Flies

We've talked a lot about this at work, prior to the decision yesterday. I went to a media day a year or two ago that had the Invictus, Defiant, and Valor mockups, and the Raider prototype. We got to walk around them, and climb in the mockups and ask questions. The Valor mockup was placed on a...

New pilot job duties in Russia

I wouldn't want to fly on any Russian aircraft an aircraft mechanic worked on. Tractor mechanic, maybe...

    Chinooks Grounded

It's straight Mikes across the board now. They are heavy and we can't seem to keep from adding stuff onto them. But, that's the same across all platforms.

    Chinooks Grounded

That sounds about right. The MH Mike models are heavy. But I will say it all depends on the ground forces kit as well. Want to leave some extra gear on the bird in case you need it, and we bring it to you later? It's gonna cost you.

    Chinooks Grounded

Yeah single aft wheel would have been sporty. I was there for Mega Mud '99... I don't remember where we were in the que, but I do remember seeing aircraft strung out for miles through NVG's. IK wouldn't happen to be short for InnKeeper, would it?

    Chinooks Grounded

Yeah, Ward got some stuff wrong on that one. I have heard that 5 to 1 ratio in the past as well. Like I said before, lots of tools in the box. Mix and match if it makes sense for the mission. The stuff he spoke about the Block II, not Block III as he stated, was also wrong. But then so are...

    Chinooks Grounded

Aft wheel pinnacle landings were always fun. In Macedonia, we had to hold a two wheel for 15 minutes while a team "disassembled" a hunter drone with chainsaws and load it to get it off of a mountain top. Oh how I remember the 101st days. Division Air Assaults with over 100 helicopters sharing...

    Chinooks Grounded

If you are talking about the combustor drain valve, to my recollection that didn't change from the 712 to the 714. I've never seen that mode of failure before, but I suppose it could happen. The problem here is simply some bad pre-formed O-ring packings either not manufactured to spec, or not...

    CV-22 Grounded

Not quite true. Future Vertical Lift (FVL) looks only to replace the H-60. FLARRA or whatever the acronym is, looks to replace the OH-58/AH-64, or whatever the Comanche was supposed to be. The -47 replacement is a LONG way down the road. V-280, has a lot going for it. Bell has gleaned a lot of...

Oh man, a Varga! Such a fun airplane. Used to fly one as a CAP Cadet.

Why don’t you fly rotor wing?

% I'm alive because of this technique. It was the most scared I've ever been in my life to this day. Do you happen to have that video of the sync shafts? I've always heard about it, but never seen it.

Practicing IFR Approaches at MIL Airfields

In my area Fort Campbell Approach is very GA friendly. I have routinely seen local flight school airplanes and even the university helicopter using the ILS and then low approach down the active. Years ago, they made you break off the approach at 1 mile from the threshold. Approach here is...

    Amphibious C-130

Hey, I learned something new about Chinooks today! I didn't know the F's were prohibited from water ops. The Echo's and Golf's are prohibited for the exact reason you stated.

Everyone ok after last night’s tornadoes?

It was sporty, but we're OK here at KCKV. Thoughts and Prayers for our neighbors in KY and surrounding TN counties. I've lived here a little over 22 years now, and I am used to this weather pattern, but I don't remember this many tornado warnings in such a short time, and close proximity. It...

    Titans Flyover

HMMWV’s usually required a fiberglass donation from the ramp area on infil. Airframe shop would always cringe when they found out we were doing vehicle training.
