If you could pick one training book....

Stick and Rudder- I am convinced that this book would have saved me a couple hours or so in my primary training when I was just starting out.

Private Jet down in Aspen, KASE

Apparently a Challenger went down at Aspen on landing. No word on survivors, looks pretty nasty... http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/fiery-plane-crash-at-aspen-airport

    CloudAhoy

Is anyone here going to pay the $70? I hope this guy is taking some of the free market research we are giving him. I'll be removing the app from my devices come 12/2.

    Formation flight with New PPL?

About a year and a half ago I was lucky enough to be afforded the opportunity to learn about formation flying and actually do it as a fairly new PP at ~100 hours total flight time. The pilot we learned from did formation flying for over 25 years in air shows and offered this as an opportunity...

    Lawsuit Madness - OMG

He's not going to answer about 91.151, because it would sink his "case". My prediction: summary judgement for defendant, "plaintiff" pays all defense fees to date. I don't think Flight Design or any of the other defendants have much to worry about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pilot survives crash/forced landing in CO

I think Glasair should require builders to put a placard in the airplane that states: "Flight into probable icing conditions with your airplane that is not equipped with any sort of anti-icing equipment strongly discouraged" Glad she's ok though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Lawsuit Madness - OMG

Mr Bernath: I want to thank you for this thread and your website, it provides great comic relief. Plus, next time I decide to take off with one tank dry and ~30 minutes of fuel in the other tank I won't because you have shared your wisdom**. *Real reason- I have common sense, and don't ever...

    Background Check to shoot photos

Completely agree. Next thing they will go after is the Live ATC feeds. Heaven forbid you hear their N-Numbers over the air...

How many engine failures have you experienced?

143.7 hours and no engine failures. However I've had a total electrical failure (2nd flight with my PPL) and the seat come loose off the tracks during a smash and go (practice flight before checkride).

    Android AWOL from OSH

Maybe I'm a special case, but I've noticed at work (healthcare) that more and more people and going away from Android to iOS for personal phones and tablets. For our work cell phones we are going to iOS vs Crackberry and the standard work tablet are also iOS. My own personal theory (and backed...

    Android AWOL from OSH

Face it- Android screams "I'm too cheap/don't want to pay for an iDevice" for many. I would bet this perception is even higher in the aviation community where some buy $1000 headsets and used to buy $2500 portable GPS units. The Android user base in aviation is simply too small and won't be...

    Ground School Instructor

I've heard that you can get out of the FOI if you have university level teaching experience (which I do). Is that true?

    Rental Rules

What's the school in question and where is your friend looking to fly out of? I'd tell your friend to look at other options. I have never heard anything that restrictive out here in Colorado...

Anyone encounter any unusual ATC delays yesterday or today?

Sunday I requested and was refused VFR flight following by Denver approach. This was the first time that this has happened to me and the frequency was unusually quiet..

    Foreflight vs. WingX Shootout?

After using FF and WingX I give Foreflight a definite edge in preflight planning, and WingX the edge for in flight usage. It's great Foreflight now has hazard advisor, but it's retarded you have to go pro to get it when it comes out of the box in WingX. Planning a flight in WingX leads to more...

    Subscribe to NTSB report updates?

Thanks for the helpful information. This is actually the one I was looking for: http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2012/09/cessna-172n-skyhawk-n5247d-student.html?m=1 No injuries (thank god) so may not be an accident in the NTSB's eyes after all

    Subscribe to NTSB report updates?

Just how long do these reports take to generate? I've been looking for one from 9/2/2012 at KBJC and so far nothing yet, not even a prelim.

    Failed Medical - Options Advice?

The fact he can't do LSA now is a shame. That FAA law that says you are ok with just your DL UNLESS you fail a medical is a joke and defies all logic. Good luck to the OP..

    Student Fell Out Of Plane

No seatbelts?!? Hopefully that instructor has good insurance and no real assets. I'm sure there is some liability lawyer out there just licking his/her chops.

    Towers & Colorado

The controllers at FTG seem to get all excited too when there are more than 3 aircraft in the pattern. They could obviously never handle the level of traffic at APA. ;) The FTG tower can go. The tower at BJC is a different story IMHO.
