Weather to Fly - FAA 1971

Did people really used to take off in those cloud conditions VFR? And then press on into mountains and winter storms kinda hoping it got better? Then they waste half a day ****ing around before deciding to drive. Nice tailwind though around the low to Cheyenne

    "Staggering" Pilot Shortage?

The 'staggering' pilot shortage I shall accept when I start seeing wages rise. Until then - it's like the ice caps melting and all the other climate change hysteria. . . .

    So, here is the mission...

Hence Joe's Airplane Purchase corrollary: "The prior owner does all the upgrades" A panel GPS, decent AP, HSI to keep you sane - will run you $30-40k installed - and thats without the latest and greatest glass HSI/primary instrument. You will NEVER find an aircraft discounted that much...

well, there are no grain diets and then there is Eukanuba or one of the grocery store dog foods! There is always a happy middle.

    So, here is the mission...

The advice on a Tiger / PA28-235 / 182T / is very sound - and you will be very happy. A Mooney C model might work out nicely for you as well. It gets hot and humid in the southeast so you want an airplane that can reliably cruise at 8500 / 9500 so you can get into cool clear air quickly...

    Advice on approaches into KFUL?

DARTS is NOT as far east or out of the way as you think it is - esp if you start getting penalty vectors for LAX or LGB traffic. If you plan a route going GMN-LAX-SLI reasonable vectors to the VOR-A - and then plan one GMN DARTS vectors to the VOR-A - total mileage is negligibly different...

    What Dog Food?

NO CARBS - at least not as an essential part of the ingredients - you ever seen a dog romp through a field of corn or wheat? Point made. We only give our Labrador Taste of the Wild - pricey? Yes. Amazon will deliver it -thats how I get it now. Sold mainly at Tractor Supply for years. carbs...

County property tax on personal airplane?

Every taxing authority has an assessment appeals process - follow it. Though they may claim market value is not the same as purchase price.

From the . . . "I'm here to help" file

Actually - I did. I contacted the actual organizer of the event - and he was the one who said de nada. It's ok - I know they use it for marketing other more expensive events - which seems to me even more of a reason to hand out your materials to all comers. That said - I spoke with the guy -...

    Battery Tender

I had a battery tender fry a couple of cells in my Gill 35. A decent quality. processor controlled tender at that. If you're airplane is going to be sitting - don't leave it unattended with a charger - no fire risk there. Drive out the day before and hook up a charger, go have lunch, come...

Because there wasn't one. Look - I asked nicely for a document that will be handed out at publicly available seminar. It's not a secret document - and even assuming its copyrighted - I'm not asking anyone to violate their own copyright. I'm asking for a copy of what they were already gong...
