YouTuber on the 1500 Hour Rule. What Do You Think?

I know a couple of retired airline captains who were hired as 250 hour wonders back in the 1960s. Both became captains and flew for the "majors" until mandatory retirement age. With that said, I do believe that such relatively low time pilots need to be paired with very experienced captains...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

The World's Only Multi-Engine Searey is on the FAA Registry as a "Fixed Wing Single-Engine", which makes me wonder how it became "approved for multi-engine operations on both land and sea". Approved by what/whom, to do what? I guess if it's approved for operations on the land and sea, it can...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Well, if you set it up like the "Harvard" guy in the image, you could claim to be a pollster, instead of a beggar.

Trained to do what? Beg? He certainly didn't learn how to spell the name of one of the world's largest religious bodies.

TBM AvengerWarbird Ditches Off The Beach During Cocoa Air Show - Video

Under the "Detailed Description" part of the listing, this statement was made: "There are signs of damage,". Krikey, that's gotta be the POA understatement of the day ... or week.

    tailwheel chock for ramp life

That's actually a trailer tongue jack wheel. They're mounted like this: It's sorta like a nosewheel strut, mounted in front of the main wheels, but different. The handle is to spin the inertia starter for the ice cream churn.

    Weird Looking Aircraft

Looking at the Mojave above, brought this to the remains of my mind ... sorta. Weird lookin' aircraft, weird lookin' fish:

    Weird Looking Aircraft

If it's possible to be weird, practical and cool all at the same time, I'd think that one would fit the bill.

The greatest aviation movie of all time!

The movie, "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines" was also a pretty good film.

Champion Lancer? I'd never even heard of that one and even though I have time in the 7AC, EC and FC, I can only barely recognize some aspects of the Champ origins of that thing.

    Weird Looking Aircraft

It hasn't ever been to Sun 'N' Fun, or hasn't been to Sun 'N' Fun under the new ownership?

    Weird Looking Aircraft

Due to the proximity of Salty's home base to the Sun 'N' Fun base in Lakeland, Fla., I'd guess that it's the same airplane. I don't remember if I asked the owner where he was based; however, at my age, even if I'd asked, I'd have forgotten the reply by now.

    Weird Looking Aircraft

I was lucky enough to see an Edgley Optica one year at Sun 'N' Fun down here in Lakeland Florida. It didn't appear all that weird to me "in the flesh", and, as a matter of fact(actually, my opinion), I thought it was cool looking. I spoke with the owner and when he bought it, his Optica had...

    Weird Looking Aircraft

I ran across this image on the Aviation Week Network and was struck by how awkward this thing looks: It's the Global 6000-derived Saab Global Eye. I realize that many ELINT/SIGINT aircraft must sprout all sorts of bumps, lumps and odd appurtenances as form follows function, but this thing...

The greatest aviation movie of all time!

Don't forget the Kennedys. Joseph Kennedy Junior was killed test flying a radio controlled explosives-laden bomber (Aphrodite Mission) somewhere over the South of England during World War II. Joe Jr. had already completed two combat tours and was eligible to go back to the U.S., but, instead...
