When will ARINC HF radio operators become obsolete?

I don’t know, we still have VORs and NDBs out there. The FAA is notoriously slow to let go of the past. We still call for SELCAL checks with Gander and Shanwick using HF and there are operators that don’t have CPDLC yet. I see HF being around for quite a while as a backup to CPDLC and SATCOM.

Lax jet dumps fuel on school.

In a 777, you’re not going to BUR single engine. I would have gone back to LAX.

    Amazon [contract] pilots are grumbling

I agree. The problem is people see pay rates of $250 an hour and then see it for 75 hours a month and think that we are highly paid part time workers. It’s just how most airline pay is structured that makes it look that way. An airline could base their pay on duty hours. If they did that...

How they do it in Mogadishu

You have to consider the fact that we know nothing about the winds and turbulence in that video.

    Amazon [contract] pilots are grumbling

Many airlines only pay when the aircraft is blocked out, so yes, the preflight paperwork and walk around is not payed, and no, it doesn’t violate labor laws. Like Larry said, the RLA is a different kind of animal.

I heard they just broke away and formed their own local. I don’t really understand how the Teamsters are organized.

The option is having a merit based system. Then you have the possibility of being passed over for a promotion due to office politics. I don’t ever want to be in that situation. There is not a perfect method. They all have pluses and minuses.

    Amazon [contract] pilots are grumbling

In this instance, if you’re referring to Airborne, then your statement is wrong. Airborne was “historically “ one of the better paying airlines and a place that most pilots were quite happy at. The downward slide started with DHL. Now the place has turned into a miserable place to work. I...

    Amazon [contract] pilots are grumbling

I disagree. Would any of us be willing go to work for a company and never expect a raise? I know the Airborne pilots agreed to wage cuts in the past when times were tough. There is no reason that they shouldn’t try to restore their pay now. The simplistic view of just leave, doesn’t work...

    Amazon [contract] pilots are grumbling

After rereading the original post, it states pilot pay. Not sure if this is an average of Captain and F/O pay or what so kinda hard to make a true comparison.

Don’t know about the hourly numbers for ATSG and Atlas, but I know for a fact the numbers for FedEx and UPS are wrong.

    [NA]Norway [NA]

You’re better off just trying to book in advance and use a legacy carrier. Delta/United,American. With these low cost carriers you’re kinda rolling the dice plus you get the crappy seats that they chose for their aircraft. (Don’t blame Boeing) Flew to Auckland on an American 787 and was...

I don’t tend to get all starstruck either but I did cross paths with Jimmy Stewart at an FBO in CAE back in the 80s. I was pretty impressed with him.

Power sliding a regional jet (O'Hare)

    1. Reversers are generally stowed by taxi speed so that you don’t suck up fod. Don’t know what the speed is for a 145. 2. Spoilers at taxi speed would be irrelevant. I’m not familiar enough with the 145 to know if that video is showing the wing outboard of the spoiler or if they weren’t...
