I agree, go for it . Getting your instrument rating or even training for the rating should only make you a better and safer pilot...Good Luck

In all fairness most "elderly " folk are about as clueless as it gets when it comes to any electronic device. At 71 I have very little trouble ( most of the time ) working my electronic coffee pot. Some of us elderly are sharper than others. Thank You

Bob, sounds like your going about it in the right way....one habit you might want to get into is calling them CHARTS instead of MAPS. Happy flying...

Rich Is right...don't take away your chance to fly SP , or Gliders Remember with SP or Gliders you still aren't supposed to fly with a know medical problem. I don't know is this would count as a know problem.

All I was saying jordane93 was if I was a new instrument pilot I would leave myself a little leeway for a safety margin. Sorry you disagree.

Michael, by now I suppose you are in Flordia. I've read the postings on looking for advice and agree with most ( not the old instructor part I'm 71 ) find a place where you can fly on a steady basis, with the same instructor....you will do fine, be sure and have fun along the way.

I learned in a Cessna 120 with a Narco VHT-3 SuperHomer with whistle stop. No transponder ...all thanks to my dear departed Dad.
