Early indication is that the weather was not a factor. Preliminary analysis showed too much CarbonDioxide in his drink and in conjunction with his recent colonoscopy left a high pressure system in the plane!

That was my first thought also. Didn't seem that speed was an issue, they kept that relatively stable, so assuming engines were generating enough thrust. They climbed to 1750 then back down to 800 a number of times. Does someone know how to get ATC communication?

I dont know about all the pro pilots here but early on during IFR training, I used to find myself often letting the speed start to drop on glidepath to below what we liked(close to stall). My instructor would point to me...watch the speed watch the speed....when I was doing instrument training...
