    NA - Retirement recon? NA

I'm 55 and planning to retire in 2-3 years. I'll likely do something part-time just to keep me going. I'm a terrible procrastinator and if I don't have anything vying for my time whatsoever, I know I'll put off doing things I enjoy, just because I can "do it tomorrow." I want to retire while...

    Flying with New Borns

Just don't leave an unattended toddler in the backseat. My folks had a C-170 my mom flew extensively. One day she took a young boy for a ride with him strapped in the back seat. She had been flying for several minutes when the engine sputtered and died. Fortunately, she had seen the young...

    Recording device for solo.

Just hold your cellphone out and record everything. I'm sure your CFI won't take that away from you. You can fly one handed if you try. [Sarcasm Alert for the Humor challenged] It is what I used for this video. Okay, bad idea for first solo. :D [Further humor/sarcasm alert for the...

This looks absolutely terrifying. Passenger films crash.

Had to change a couple of feathering pumps on B-25 over the years, once after the pump burned up and started smoking when tested before a flight. Never saw folks unass an airplane so fast.

Have any of y'all done this? Anyone found any surprises?

When did you get out of the Army? I had DNA samples for record in 1999 for a deployment in Balkans...for casualty identification purposes I was told. Supposably (intentional), it was a new thing at the time. I'm sure it never goes away.

(NA) 1 Pack of Cigarettes vs. Lungs

I used chewing tobacco as a kid before I smoked. It was the Skoal/Copenhagen snuff which was hard to quit for me.

(NA) 1 Pack of Cigarettes vs. Lungs

I quit smoking by using smokeless tobacco. It was a snap. Then it came time to quit the smokeless tobacco. It was a *****. After two plus decades, I don't really miss either...much...after a meal. Once addicted, always addicted even after you quit.

    Chuck Yeager video

I had the opportunity to meet and talk to Bob Hoover privately a couple of times. He was nothing but a gentleman and genuine nice person both times. First was following his Shrike routine at OSH in the late 70s when I was 16 or 17. He had moved the Shrike to a parking area adjacent to the...

Flying into/out of Dallas on American Eagle?

The taxi time is longer than many flights out of Dallas on American Eagle. It is certainly much longer than the beverage service, if there even is one. Taxi for 45 minutes for a 40 minute flight. Lived that for many years when stationed at Ft Sill, OK and everything went through DFW.

    First Solo....well, kinda, sorta...

Hardly. Every one of them had Primary, Basic and Advance Training in tailwheel airplanes before they climbed into those P-39s. They had tamed the T-6 sufficiently to advance to fighters. So, they may have come from flying trikes, but they weren't nosewheel pilots by any stretch.

    AC-120-76D and Private Checkride

I had to wait a long time for all the electronic gizmos beyond a VOR. I had to learn it for my checkride. It was several more years before I had a plane with one...and even longer before I had one with one which worked.

    Pesky fuel leak.

Is he shutting down with mixture or mags? I've seen Continental shut down, throttle closed with mags end up with gas running out the airbox because it is drawing gas as it winds down. Maybe a bad carb to intake sump gasket leaking?

    [NA] Newspapers

So who is getting the $2M settlement? Sounds like the cop would have done better to shoot the Editor.

    [NA] Newspapers

I don't expect great literature, but don't journalism degrees require passing some basic English reading/writing classes? Correctly spelled words in simple reasonably formed sentences would be nice. Once upon a time, what was taught in high school far exceeded what our colleges and...

    [NA] Newspapers

I was a daily newspaper subscriber for years, but let subscriptions lapse about ten years ago. Ironically, the newspaper continued to deliver for several months and then tried billing me for it. I told them, good luck collecting and heard no more about it. I will buy a random Sunday...

    AC-120-76D and Private Checkride

Assume he will fail it whether he is "allowed" or not. Do not depend on anything working on a checkride or subsequent flight. Buy the chart and prepare it. Worst that can happen is he doesn't fail the iPad. Best, he does and you're ready. Which would you prefer, be ready and pass or trust...
