    Smallest registration string

I get "say full number" occasionally when I report 4WJ on initial call. I oblige and reply full number is N4WJ.

    Aeronca Champ vs. Cessna 150?

I've seen that as well. Shove the stick forward quickly to get the tail up so you can see over the nose in an S1 Pitts and watch the fun... So you found a DPE who would let you fly using a GPS or iPad in your lap with him in the seat behind you in a Champ? I can see it in a side-by-side, but...

    Pilot falls asleep, misses destination

They have bigger problems than falling asleep if lack of O2 is a problem in a Cub...or Swift.

    Aeronca Champ vs. Cessna 150?

Not to mention a VOR to demonstrate the ancient nav technology for the PP Checkride.

    Aeronca Champ vs. Cessna 150?

Well, I learned in a Cub and own one, so... Having flown both, they both have good points and bad. That said, it was all in good humor. Either is hands-down better than a 150. :D

    Aeronca Champ vs. Cessna 150?

Someone has to say it (almost a Godwin's Law of Aviation)...J-3 Cub. :D

    Best sunglasses for flying!

This is quite subjective like having progressive bifocals. Everyone told me never use them for flying. My experience is such that when I bought my new prescription polarized Maui Jim sunglasses, I made sure they were progressive bifocals. They are so horrible, I cannot imagine flying without...

    Pilot falls asleep, misses destination

That is what I tell my brother when he falls asleep when we are going somewhere...which he does frequently when I'm flying. I've threatened to roll it inverted and push one of these days. Photo is in Swift. He does it in the RV-4 too. Heck, he's fallen asleep in the Cub too.

    Best sunglasses for flying!

Finding a good set of optically correct $15 glasses is the problem. Most cheap sunglasses have plastic lense which have some distortion and it severely screws with my vision and in turn causes a headache is very short order. Just one of the joys of getting old and dealing with fading visual...

Getting suction cups to stick better

Just spread a thin layer of silicone sealant to the backside and put it in place...it won't come off. Even when you want it to. :D

    Best sunglasses for flying!

I personally love my Maui Jim polarized sunglasses, but I fly old fashion steam gauges. Many "glass" panels don't get along well with polarized. I don't have any problem seeing my iPad or Aera 500 with polarized either. Different screens do "black out"...typically at the gas station pump. I...

    Great Flying Sunday/Aeroprakt A32

Wow. You admitted to knowing Dennis Long publicly? Just kidding. I've known him for a long time, since I moved here in 2003. Good guy and a great ambassador and salesman for the Aeroprakt. I've never met anyone else who loves to fly as much as he does.

    [NA] Cordless drill

I've had good luck with my Porter Cable set. I have a Ryobi saw and fan, both of which work well, but I had to replace the charger and one battery pretty quickly when they both died separately. The PC is older and held up better in my personal use, which isn't daily, but typically weekly.

    Good old Wild Chicken!

    Which 1911?

That is a true statement, what feels right is what you want. I'm just the opposite. I carried and qualified with both M1911A1 and Beretta M9 in the Army. I loved the M1911A1...despite their worn appearance and never could love the M9. The grip was just too thick for me to have a comfortable...

    Which 1911?

I'm partial to my Colt. I also have a WWII Remington Rand and a modern Auto Ordnance.

What does POA think of the Cessna 170?

The FAA frowns on using cool terms. Taildragger is cool. Conventional gear, in the age of trikes, is confusing. The FAA loves confusion.

    Aviator’s Timepiece

I love a German watch which says "Made in Germany" in English rather than Deutsch. :D I wear a Casio Pro-Trek Solar. I have a Movado in a drawer at home...which probably needs a battery at this point, along with a number of various other watches I never wear. I think I also have a Seiko of...
