While the FAA typically wants MOHS, I've had removal in clinic, non-MOHS which I submitted the pathology reports showing clear margins and the FAA approved without issue. I was once offered a topical by a dermatologist and declined choosing surgical process due to needing to keep the FAA happy.

I had MOHS procedure for a Basal Cell over/in my right eyebrow a few years back. I bit unnerving, but no pain during procedure. Ended up having a an approximate a large section cut out to get everything. Had some bruising and localized swelling for several days. Looked like I'd been punched...

The disadvantage is when the workmanship is bad. I've seen that on a few kits. Depending upon how far along it is, it can make you worry about what might not be so easy to see that is hidden in enclosed stuff like control surfaces (thinking RV here). There are definitely some gems out there...

I do it in the Cub, mostly for fun, but it could be useful in an unfriendly off field emergency landing. In the RV, I do short field approach at the home drome, but not as much with a behind the power curve type.
