    Highway Landing

Dump trucks are cheaper roadblocks than $500,000 to $750,000 fire engines... thats why they may be using them up there.. and given up north the roads need winter time ice treatment, the DOT/cities probably have a much larger fleet of dump trucks than we do down here in the south..

How to improve my wife's "service ceiling"

Are you sure this is a pressure headache? or hypoxia? Try some o2.. Heck.. try a cheap pulse oximeter and check her sats at ground and at altitude.

IFR ACS Study - Going Nuts

Right... They should give us the spoonfed answer. Rather than learning all the relevant context material and finding the answer within. I deal way too much with adult education with folks who dont want to get the big picture, and only want to be taught the test so they can move on. Makes for a...

Marine Corps KC-130 Crash in Mississippi claims 5

a knowledgeable but unofficial source related to me the aircraft was a well traveled one, and in 2004 was blown over/tilted on its wingtip while on the ground during a bad storm. Presumably anything from back then would have been well inspected... and or repaired..

I took a coleman gasoline camp stove with me, and a lantern, defueled. ( or maybe I mailed them to myself, general deliverly, to the on field post office.. they still have that?) I then used the sump on the wing to obtain enough fuel to fuel them for cooking and light. When done, what was left...

Public display of the consumption of alcohol

It was on Sunday before noon wasn't it? Edit to add.... I've been a lifelong resident of Texas and didn't know it was against the law to drink in a public place IN A STATE PARK... But now I do. And for the record, it is a class C misdemeanor. TITLE 31 NATURAL RESOURCES AND CONSERVATION PART...

    "New" VW diesel?

Neither of my newer Diesel Jetta's nor my mothers Diesel Jetta, all bought after 2010, had a DEF tank. That was the whole appeal of the VW "clean diesel" in not needing the urea catalyst.

NARDO Ag operations at municipal airport

Subsidized as in "at cost" rather than the typical 1-2 dollar per gallon markup that FBO's typically provide. Its a county by county thing. I know of one county where it was the case. Was.. the manager isn't there anymore.. so.. who knows.

    DVT with Stent Placement

It is, indeed. When taken in excessive doses, the rats bleed to death. If you want to really bone up on trivia, you should look into the history of how Coumadin was discovered, in Wisconson, by people observing that cows who ate moldy grass subsequently bled and died.. at the Wisconsin Animal...

    DVT with Stent Placement

As an aside, I hope they found the reason for the clots in the first place. Plan on anticoagulation for life, since you had recurrence 3 months later. If you can get under control without recurrence you should be issuable. Dr Chien can provide certification advice as an AME.

NARDO Ag operations at municipal airport

The fuel is probably cheap for a reason - the city or the county is subsidizing it in order to support the ag operators, who help their farmers make money. That is the stated reason the fuel is cheap as it is at both of the Chambers County airports on the other side of Houston from Eagle Lake...

Initial call up FF or deporting C or B airport

I understand WHAT you are saying approach can do. My experience in the Houston Terminal Airspace is that the approach controllers would NOT do that, even when requested explicitly. They gave you a local code and cut you loose when you left the terminal area. The only way I got center codes was...

Initial call up FF or deporting C or B airport

Thats not been my experience. This is extra work for them, and busy approach controllers dont always have the time for this. If you were given a "local" code (which is also shared, recycled as a local code at other approaches across the nation) in the air, in my experience that code isn't going...

Initial call up FF or deporting C or B airport

My experience in the Houston Class B.. When departing from a nontowered field and "airfiling" as a popup I got a local code only, and had to make a separate call to Center. When departing a towered field, I made my request for FF from clearance delivery/ground and I'd be issued a center code and...

    IFR direct over Chicago...

Your conclusion would be inaccurate. The corporate jerk was someplace he had a right to be, jerk or not. The airliner was on vectors and IFR and the controller told him where to go. In other words, I dont feel the jerk was at fault nor did he break any rules. And I dont feel the airline captain...
