Thinking of downsizing to a fun 2 seater

RV-7A or RV-9A. Probably be in the $100,000 to $140,000 range depending on engine, avionics. If you prefer tail dragger, look at the non-A versions. A little less room than the RV-14. Very economical to operate and maintain. Passenger, luggage, and a dog will be a stretch.

So Bill Gates is part-owner of Signature?

I'm surprised that Gates would do this. Apple doesn't have a competing product he can copy.

“Suspected” Afib leads to Waste of $$$$ and Spec. Issuance

An Apple Watch or a Kardia Mobil are very accurate and simple on-the-spot ways to distinguish a “high heart rate event” from atrial fibrillation. A cardiologist buddy recommended it as I was often hitting heart rates of 170-180 on my mountain bike.

“Suspected” Afib leads to Waste of $$$$ and Spec. Issuance

In this case, the OP underwent tens-of-thousands of dollars of unnecessary medical testing because of an unsupported WAG that his doctor dumped into the medical record without followup tesing and which in turn ultimately came to the attention of the FAA based on the AME relaying information that...

“Suspected” Afib leads to Waste of $$$$ and Spec. Issuance

The OP wasn’t suffering from a heart condition.

“Suspected” Afib leads to Waste of $$$$ and Spec. Issuance

If a doctor is going to "think out loud" in the medical record, then he or she is obligated make a move to prove or disprove those musings. To just say "the patient's symptoms might be due to atrial fibrillation" and then not follow up with appropriate testing or specialty consultation in order...

“Suspected” Afib leads to Waste of $$$$ and Spec. Issuance

Valid point. The FAA AME's source of health care information is supposed to come from the 8500-8 or the MedXPress form. They "shouldn't" be allowed to just cruise around in one's medical records and base their evaluation on that. The exception might be if the OP's doctor actually entered a...

“Suspected” Afib leads to Waste of $$$$ and Spec. Issuance

Classic FAA, not to mention a good example of medical record carelessness on the part of your doctor. A patient’s medical record is not a place for musings and “thinking out loud”.

    Mounting systems for video camera

Here's Flight Flix's take on the "major/minor alteration" issue mounting cameras to certificated airplanes... https://flightflix.net/faa-camera-mount-guide/ . Not something I've worried about on my RV.

    Missionary Aviation

I've flown with MFI several times years ago as a passenger into Haiti at time when it was the only way we could get cargo into the central highlands. Back then (about 15 years ago), they had a lot of..."rules"...consistent with their religious inclination. Those old DC-3's were a hoot though...

    Mounting systems for video camera

I agree about the tail tie-down mount. I like the view of the gear, but I also like that view pointed down. In that latter arrangement, the amount of jello is less. I've not had good luck at the tail tie-down otherwise. I'm suspecting that it's more about the tie down than it is the camera mount.

    Mounting systems for video camera

I have that one mounted on my left wingtip. I was unhappy with the amount of "jello" and started using this one, which appears to provide a much more solid mount and no jello on my airplane. I'm sure it varies from airplane to airplane...

Have your current physician provide it. He/she can note in the chart or provide a separate letter that details the current state of your anxiety diagnosis.

Experiences while flying GA in the past year

Here in Minnesota, you can't sit down and eat a hamburger at any price. Courtesy car availability is all over the board from "no way" to "that will be $100/day" to "help yourself". Masks are plus/minus. According the the governor, you're supposed to wear them at the FBO, but it's about 50/50 and...

    CAP sailplanes

Emergency Services, such as SAR, are only part of the CAP's mission. The other two are aerospace education and the many, many cadet programs. Including soaring (which BTW is part of the freshman curriculum at the US Air Force Academy).

    More FAA craziness...

I will say...things are quite a bit different in the RC world these days than they were 20 years ago. It used to be that your average RCs flyer was older and had to have a lot of building skill. That, and the expense and difficulty of flying an RC airplane tended to keep the hobby in the realm...

How necessary is iPad GPS for ForeFlight?

I have a 430W, a Dynon SV-GPS-200 on my AFS5400, and a GPS puck on my backup G5. Plus my iPhone and my cellular/GPS iPad Pro. I have ZERO excuses for getting lost. The Dynon GPS is far more accurate than the 430WAAS and updates faster, but it's not certified for IFR so I need to at least have...

    COVID Vaccine (2)

As the politics fade with time...don't know how much time...we will be more likely to get an accurate retrospective picture that might help us out when the next pandemic comes along. Unfortunately, I fear the those politics have hopelessly poisoned the data we have collected.
