    V8 172

I believe their website says they are using a marine version of the LS engine as the starting point for the conversion. Then making some additional modifications to the oil system, adding engine controls and of course the reducing gear.

    172 vs 177 vs 182

I probably have 20-25 hours in it at night over the last couple of years with the stock lights and it hasn't been an issue for me. The 150 hp was a good deal for us. I wouldn't be excited to take it way up in the mountains but it definitely gets us where we want to go and being able to use...

    172 vs 177 vs 182

We bought our 68' Cardinal for under 40k a couple of years ago. It had around 2300 on the airframe and about 1500 on the since the last engine overhaul so not exactly low time but certainly not run out. There are good ones to be found out there for your price point.

New EPA proposed regs for aircraft

Depends on where you live. At least 3 of our local airports offer Mogas and I know quite a few people including myself that land there to take advantage of that even though we're often based elsewhere. Kind of a build it and they will come thing.

    172 vs 177 vs 182

I haven't driven an old Caddy so couldn't tell you and I wouldn't call a Cardinal "sporty" either. I suppose the comparison would be that both will allow you to cruise along not terribly fast but very comfortably. Dad's point as someone that has a lot of time in both was that as capable as a 182...

    172 vs 177 vs 182

Interesting that you can't stand the wing strut on a 172 but a 182 might be ok? To answer some of your questions. - The 177 is a really nice flying airplane. Well balanced and light on the controls. My Dad has had both a 182 and a 177 and loves them both, but will tell you the 182 handles like...

    Helping yourself to fuel.

If you ask for help or if I happen to notice that you could use a hand I would be more than happy to do whatever I could for you, but I have a problem with someone just helping themselves whether they paid or not. If you take it from my airplane I hope your engine can run on mogas. I can't say...

Things to see/do in Wichita this weekend (aviation or not)

Visit the Keeper of the Plains and walk around the riverfront area. If you're looking for a hike go to the Great Plains Nature Center. I also believe Doc will be home this weekend https://www.b29doc.com/

What plane should you buy? Here ya go

How am I going to adhere to the 250kt speed limit under 10,000 MSL in this thing? Can I get a waiver?

Drove my plane into town (Beaumont Hotel)

I go there all the time for breakfast. I'm local so haven't stayed in the hotel but the food is decent and it's a neat place to visit. The strip slopes down to the south a fair bit (for the flatlands) so I only go when the wind favors runway 18 since the Cardinal is a bit underpowered for an...

Does anyone own a Diamond DA-40

I'll give the Cardinal another plug. It fits your mission and when your wife looks at the big doors and all the room inside she'll think it fits her idea of what you'll be doing. They are nice handling and comfortable although not as fast as the Diamond. Available in both fixed gear and retract...

I'm one of those arrogant a-holes :D I still haven't found anyone that can explain how you get saw out of sas just by adding a couple of letters to the front of the word.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Man if that was real it would take a ridiculous amount of grain carts and trucks to keep up while cutting corn

The dog and I are sleeping in the basement...

I slugged the feeder house on a combine with a skunk once cutting wheat. It was an old machine that didn't have a reverser unfortunately for me. Cleaning that out was a nasty job.
