    Reno Air Race Crash

I remember being a teenager (a few years older than your daughter) at Oshkosh and watching as the two P51s collided on landing back in 2007. I was as close to the runway as you could get and was down past the ultralight area (so somewhat close to where it happened). It was my first time seeing...

    Skis

Sounds like you were better than I ever was. I still default to my old (2004) Fischer slalom skis. I've been debating a new pair, but can't see myself being happy with anything other than a new pair of slalom skis. I feel like I'd be bored on most other options.

Can I be a pilot with a General Discharge

Some people on here are unnecessarily harsh and act like they’re above stupid decisions. All of us have done dumb things at times in our past. And most of us will again in the future. Get off your high horses and be happy you weren’t caught doing something dumb or caught in the wrong place at...

    Air-to-Air Hatz Radial - EAA

Looks like a Waco with the radial. Not surprising given that it was designed as a small version of the Waco F

I was confused too. I found their website. It looks like it’s an E-flat cornet.

    Unusual Musical Instruments

Those look like fun. I was debating one of those or an ocarina for something fun to play with/learn on my lunch break. Both are small, relatively durable, and inexpensive so I can just leave it in my car unlike a piano or guitar. Any tips or suggestions for someone buying one?

    Unusual Musical Instruments

What were the challenges with making them? What was most interesting about it? Creating a nice mouthpiece and boring the center hole seems challenging. I’ve always wondered how small the tolerances were on the position of holes on wind instruments to make them play in tune. any interesting...

How did you get into that? Do you play a single or a double?

    Unusual Musical Instruments

I know we have a number of musicians on this form. I think I've seen a number of guitar posts. Maybe some piano. Maybe some discussion of other instruments. Does anyone play any unusual or historic instruments? Zither, Lute, Clavichord, Hurdy-Gurdy, Didgeridoo, Theramin, Musical Saw...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I'm happy that my lawn finally looks like everyone else's. Before this drought my yard was mostly weeds and the neighbors had grass. Now we all have brown, though rain earlier this week is trying to change that. I haven't mowed in 3 or 4 weeks either. It has been a nice break.

    Thread about actual beer

Apparently there are places that distill beer into alcohol/whiskey: https://www.eater.com/drinks/2016/5/18/11693112/beer-whiskey-craft-pa-wheat-ale-arcane I might have to try one of those.

    182 Transition

I didn't notice it much in the 172 vs. 182, but in the 172 vs. 206 I felt like the seat height really made a difference. I feel like flying it with the seat lower feels better for IFR since the gages are more in your face. At the same time, a lower seat can reduce visibility for VFR flying...

    [NA] Packages through customs

Thanks all. Sounds like I don’t really have anything to worry about. It’s a very small business and while I know he has shipped to the US, I don’t know how frequently. He only makes a few instruments per year so probably not that frequently.

    [NA] Packages through customs

This may be a long shot, but does anyone have tips for helping packages get through customs? I’ve ordered small things like books internationally but nothing too expensive so I’ve always just waited the 1-3 weeks for it to clear without much thought. I’ve heard for big items a customs broker can...

    Oshkosh 2022 picture thread

Interesting, the other plane I thought of in addition to the M-18 was the Lockheed Little Dipper. I don't know why, as that looks a lot different than this one, but interesting that they're both from the same company.
