    Instrument Student in IMC

To the OP. Please post the airport, tail number, date & time. I don't care about the pilots name. I want to see the track and compare it to the approach plate. And I want to get the METAR.

    Instrument Student in IMC

I mentioned this because we don't have a lot of facts on the table. But, just off the top of my head: 1) He got stuck on top and declared an emergency. 2) The pilot has passed his IR check ride and the OP just does not know that it has happened. 3) The pilot was actually under special-VFR...

    Instrument Student in IMC

The OP needs to understand that this is not the same a reporting a drunk driver going down the interstate on the wrong side. I wonder if he really understands what is happening everyday in the skies around him. Pilots without BFRs flying. Pilots without medicals flying. Pilots who lied on their...

    Transferring ownership question

You have to be careful here. Generally:: If he owned it under his own name, then sold you 50% afterward, then in many states you should have paid them sales/use taxes for that 50%. If you paid that money, and are now buying it as the sole owner (even in an LLC), then your may owe the state the...

Once at that page, try to register for the Feb. 8 session. It takes you to the Feb. 3 session. The web links are identical.

Interesting Garmin webinar that you can't register for.

Garmin has an upcoming webinar titled "Affordable Database Solutions" which was advertised as explaining how their different subscriptions really work. The problem is that the registration link takes you to the registration for "Garmin Pilot 101: Aircraft Setup". Its at...

    Getting insurance after a crash

It might be cheaper to rent with an instructor for the next few years. There are some instructors that will come in on their off-day just to go get a free $100 hamburger with a pure pleasure flight. It gets logged as 'dual x-country', but the CFI is really just chilling out. He may not even...

    Departing PDK to the south

You might want to look at M95 just west of B'ham. It's the airport where my daughter lives and is perfect for your type of stop There is a good Mexican within easy walking distance (maybe 1/3 mile) to the north of the FBO. Plus there is a free crew car for a few other restaurants. Cheep fuel and...

    Where to retire?

I live in Winter Haven, FL. They definitely know how to handle old people here. It appears that there is one hospital room, extended care room, or <other> room for every single person over 65 within 50 miles. :)

Agonizing decision whether to upgrade panel in Cherokee 140/160

If your aircraft is one that meets your mission needs, and you plan on keeping it many years, forget the resell value issue and just fix it up. You will be a lot safer with newer equipment in your own plane than in a rental plane. And, don't be too cheap and try to do it in stages as it will...

VFR into IMC - nothing like training

You did good. I think that if you talk to a lot of IFR pilots, you will find that some similar situation pushed them to get their IR rating. It did for me also. We don't know how much we don't know until we get caught in real IMC.

Agonizing decision whether to upgrade panel in Cherokee 140/160

There is nothing like flying your own aircraft IFR. Renting for IFR travel is just not the best. If you like your plane, do the upgrade. If you plan to move up, then go find the right plane now, then take your lessons. Things to consider: Any radios over 25y old should be replaced or...

    First Airplane Recommendations

You quoted a sell offer from late 2020 and almost a year ago in early 2021. The last 12 months is where the prices have gone 'more' crazy.

For Sale: Aircraft 1969 Beech Musketeer B23

I am guessing that you have sold the plane by now. But, someone is quoting this thread as an example of how inexpensive some planes are right now, even though your offer is a year old. Could you post an update?

How come there's still no NTSB report for N79396?

So, the landing was not quite as good as it first appeared? :)

    Salty's Crash Speculation Thread

Just before my insurance renewal in Oct, I had a broker do an appraisal. My previous hull value was only 2/3" of the (Oct.) current hull value. And, it cost me another $1K/year to insure it for the new value. I plan on another appraisal next year due to the market.
