    Bravo Breaching

As others have said, file the ASRS and bust no more. If for nothing else, it will help you understand what happened, why it happened, and how to avoid having it happen again. Those who suggest the ASRS isn’t intended for situations like this don’t really understand the point of the system. A...

Hudson River Skyline Route during stadium TFR

Also, if you are taking the skyline route back north, you will likely be talking to LGA and you can request for them to coordinate with TEB to route you to the west of the stadium TFR. This is fairly common.

Hudson River Skyline Route during stadium TFR

Note. You can talk to JFK tower and request higher than 500' (with bravo clearance) for the south shore route. Depending on which runway is in use and how busy they are, they may grant it.

    3Y3 to KFME (DC Area)

Also, when departing Tipton (KFME) make sure you get your clearance on the ground via phone from Potomac TRACON. Applies to both vfr and ifr.

    3Y3 to KFME (DC Area)

In the event you find yourself VFR and are told to remain clear of the BWI class B, make sure you identify the locations of all of the tall towers along your flight path. There are quite a few towers that reach up to around 1500 ft which is coincidentally also the altitude of the class B shelf...

How did you decide how much plane to afford?

A lot of really good tips have already been provided by others on this thread. I’ll add/reiterate a few points. 1- the purchase price is only buy in and often it is the cheapest part of ownership. 2- know that there will be large unexpected costs and plan accordingly. If you spend the bulk...

    My new bird

The issue is the amount of time it takes to get the information you need from the unit or to enter information into the unit. For example, entering/editing a flight plan that has a few waypoints could easily take minutes.

    My new bird

Wasn’t criticizing. I was asking a legitimate question. I’ve had mine overheat quite a bit in sunny conditions, usually when I’d need it most (busy airspace, etc.). I’ve heard from other helo pilots that overheating is pretty common given the size of the bubble. blueskyMD, congratulations on...

Have you flown with an iPad in your lap while flying a helicopter and in particular an R44?

    My new bird

I agree that a panel mount GPS is a good idea in an R44. An iPad will overheat pretty often in the summer months in direct sunlight. My opinion however, the 430 is a terrible gps in a helicopter. In an airplane the knob twisting is annoying. In a helicopter it can be downright dangerous as it...

Flying through nyc bravo Vfr these days?

If you’re on with approach you’ll have no problems. NY controllers are great. I fly a helicopter and they always work me in using the charted heli routes. You should review these routes. Lately however, the traffic has been so light jfk has given me direct w altitude at my discretion. please...

Landing on private property (with permission)

^ This. Do your homework though. Different jurisdictions have different laws which may apply. For example off airport landings are banned on Long Island, NY and in the entire state of NJ. also the advice regarding your insurance is sound. You’d feel pretty stupid if you had an incident /...

closed self service fueling (covid 19 related)

Same here. I occasionally manage to spill a little AVGAS using the self serve pumps. Gloves keep it off my hands... side benefit- no direct contact with the pump handle or keypad.

How do you cover your last mile?

^^^ This. You are flying there in a private aircraft. You can call a car to pick you up.

    Correct. One-X is over ear.

    David Clark One-X

I have the DC One X and recommend it 100%. I use it in a helicopter and find the performance to be on par with the Bose A20 but more comfortable on long flights with less clamping force. The One X also folds down into a smaller shape for storage and transport when not in use. I also have yet to...
