    Zepher engine report

This engine was overhauled by replacing ALL of the parts with new ECI so it was quite expensive. ECI has now raised the price on the parts kit twice since this deal was made so it is getting impractical to do. We get $17,900 for "standard" O-320/360 engines. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

    Glazed cylinder walls

    One cylinder running warm

Sticking valves in Lycoming parallel valve engines are common thus SB 388. It is rare in angle valve engines like yours but it does happen. I'd do the wobble test and borescope a look at that exhaust valve. Charlie Melot Zephyr ngines

    Glazed cylinder walls

If the cylinders are glazed the only thing that might have caused this is overheating. That's what causes it during breakin. It also could be loss of ring tension due to overheating. BTW there are no aftermarket clinders for this engine. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

Aux Fuel Pump Issues in a C-182T

Boost pumps are not failure prone. At wide open throttle and full rich the boost pump will not flow a lot of fuel as there is no air going through the fuel injector. If you need to start with limited prime cranking wide open and rich will usually flow enough fuel to start. You do need to get it...

    IO-360 cylinder 4

This is correct IF the hottest cylinder is the one that peaks first. The leanest one is the one that reaches peak first and may or may not be the hottest. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

    Revisiting the Twin Comanche issue...

I've never checked stabilator travel but I have the interconnect mod that was part of installing the left ahnd rotation right engine. I can full stall land with full flaps. I've never touched the nose wheel first. I will admit to dropping it on a bit hard in a three point attitude a bunch of...

    Moving Cessna 172 Oil Door

As Lance said leave the original access door in place. The dipstick tube IS the filler on conventional O-320/O-360's so one new access will suffice.

    Not getting full power

Depending on the pitch of the prop 2200 static is low and 2600 WOT in level flight is a bit low. Hve the hydraulic units checked. "Soggy" hydraulics will do that to an O-300. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

    Duchess RPM fluctuation

It's a tach error. Anything more than 20 rpm out of synch is audible. 50+ rpm would also cause a slight yaw. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

    O-320-E 160 hp spark plugs?

New cylinders don't work well with used plugs. If you want fouling resistance without thew cost of fine wires use REM-37BY's. That's the "long nose" massive electrode plug.

    Recommend EGT/CHT Guage for O-300D

If you want to run 80 ROP the no egt method is to lean to the edge of rough on one mag then go back to both mags and you'll be at about 75 ROP. This is much better than guessing how much control travel it take to get there. As long as the mag timing is set right this works well. Charlie Melot...

    Engine conversion

Converting an IO-470-L to an "N" changes the sump, fuel injection system, intake pipes and can be done IAW an old TCM service bulletin so it is a log entry by an A & P no 337 or FAA involved. If you part out the existing "C" you have all the parts and components and can sell the "L" stuff with...

And the hits just keep on coming... (engine probs)

The only inspection processes applicable to to the camshaft gear are visual, which can be done in place, and magnaflux which would require disassembly. Visual inspection will tell if the gear was damaged by the pin. If the teeth show no signs of any impact or abrasion I'd leave it alone. BTW ECI...

    Lance's Baron

Other changes include upsizing the injectors and machining out the choke from the cylinders. The new engines are officially still IO-470s but they have 520 CuIn of displacement and are supposed to make over 300 HP each vs 260 Good luck with chokeless cylinders. TCM proved that didn't work...
