    NA Password managers

Second on LastPass, though they were recently purchased by LogMeIn, so we'll see what happens. The two features that I love are the ability to instantly sync between all devices (pay the $12/yr, it's more than worth it), and the Secure Notes, which allow me to keep track of passport numbers...

First Actual IMC - Post Checkride

So, I decided to do something crazy.... I re-read the autopilot manual and yep, right there. I have to fly the PT, or in this case the HILPT, using the heading bug. I can only assume that the heading bug was what caused the turn in the wrong direction. Sigh.... RTFM.....

First Actual IMC - Post Checkride

I'm not sure on the version. In this case, however, the GPS did show the hold, along with a parallel entry. The AP simply turned the wrong way. I didn't let it get too far, so I'm not sure what it was "thinking". I'm wondering if I had the course selector backwards on the HSI, but I didn't...

First Actual IMC - Post Checkride

I think you're absolutely right. I'm about to fire up the Garmin Sim to try to duplicate that issue on that approach.

First Actual IMC - Post Checkride

I've done a bit of actual with an instructor, even after my IFR Checkride, but yesterday was the first day I went up by myself. A lot of fun, and pretty uneventful, but I made a couple of observations: 1) And while this is obvious and well-known, I really understand just how quickly VFR pilots...

Good FAA Medical Examiner in DFW Area

I remember him doing pushups during an exam about 15 years ago. Not this time. It was all politics. And I'm pretty sure he didn't vote for Obama....

Good FAA Medical Examiner in DFW Area

One other note on Dr. Fried. He just did mine a few months ago and I have high BP. I had to have a form with me, or he couldn't issue the medical that day (not his rule). The receptionist sent it to me, but I believe it was a standard AOPA form. (Oh, and Dr. Fried may be older than your AME...

How to land a 737 (Nervous Passenger Edition)

I've always said that when we're facing a zombie apocalypse or alien invasion, just find my teenage son and get behind him. He's been preparing for this his whole life and knows EXACTLY what to do!

All good, and I appreciate the confirmation that I'm doing this correctly.

    STAR Clarification

I got an IR last year, but only recently started doing actual trips, rather than quick sightseeing or $100 hamburger trips (BS, by the way, more like $300 hamburgers these days). Lately, I've made it a habit of always filing IFR, which has been a lot of fun. But there is something that keeps...

Plane hits car or car hits plane?

No question. I don't think the pilot saw the car, but the pilot put him/herself in the position of not being able to see the car.

Plane hits car or car hits plane?

Sorry, Njp, that picture wasn't to refute anything you said, I was just showing a different view. I knew you were exaggerating. I think it's entirely possible the pilot didn't see the van until it was too late to do anything, given how low he/she was. It looks like the plane is slightly...

Plane hits car or car hits plane?

Here is a view of that end of the runway, which shows that fence, the road, and the threshold. The airport is 52F in Roanoke, TX. I don't know about a thousand feet from the threshold, but the pilot should have been a lot higher nonetheless.

    Making a Murderer - Netflix

******SPOILERS****** The thing that bugs me with the second murder was the car found in the salvage yard. I can't wrap my head around the cops actually murdering the girl, but if Avery didn't do it, how did the real killer get the car there, most likely plant the key AFTER the cops had...
