Planning a trip to Airventure 2022

The goodwill store doesn’t do bikes anymore. In 2019, they lost the agreement with the prison that used to do the tuneups and get all the bikes ready to sell. Frustrating, but now you almost have to bring your own bike if you want to have one for the week.

    Any Pilots Open to Interview?

Come on guys. This gentleman came here and nicely asked if he could talk to some actual pilots and you started complaining to him about the notam system. Let him try to solve the problem he’s hoping to solve by gathering the information he needs first. The human centered design approach can...

    Air-to-Air Cessna T182RG

Those 182RG guys just can’t seem to remember to close the cowl flaps when you’re shooting. Somehow they both ended up on magazine covers though.

Sell 152 as is or with radios

I’d buy a used version of the same radios. Slide it in and you don’t have to worry about some guy complaining that this thing must be neglected and offering you half the value of the plane. How much can old Collins radios cost on eBay?

MD-87 in flames in Houston field, all occupants apparently evacuated

Report indicates the linkage was over center, so I don’t think corrosion is the issue.

    HELP! Insurance Claim Denial

All agents have their own forms. This one may be more detailed than another one. Insurance companies are most certainly in business to pay claims. They set up reserves and register with state insurance commissioners to pay claims. Those reserves are recognition now that they will pay claims in...

    172 iPad Mini yoke mount

I bought one of these from Sportys at Oshkosh this year and have been pretty happy with it. Looks like the price has gone up a bit since then, so I’m not sure how it compares to true Ram branded mounts now. https://www.sportys.com/robust-universal-ipad-yoke-mounta.html

    Discouraged last lesson

I’m late to the party, but I struggled a bit at the beginning of my instrument training getting behind the airplane or figuring out my instructor’s “looks about right” approach. I have a friend who was a T-38 IP a couple decades ago and he told me just go out and practice constant airspeed 500...

    HELP! Insurance Claim Denial

And now we all know that there is such a thing as a 172 tail dragger conversion.

    HELP! Insurance Claim Denial

The form you filled out when you bought insurance was likely the agent’s form, not the insurance company. The agent was responsible for knowing the plane they were insuring when they took it to underwriters. If the model number was correct and the policy covers it on its face (eg references the...

    LLC questions

Wow. Lots of bad info in this thread. It always amazes me what people tout as fact because “the tax man just won’t allow that loophole.” The tax man doesn’t get to define the law. He just enforces it. The answer depends on the state, but we do this all the time for non-aviation assets for all...

    Ordered new Tecnam P2010

GTU usually has good prices on gas. That jet center is down the taxiway and around the back if I recall. The tower and self serve, along with city tie downs, are right off the runway. Tower has always been super helpful when I have been there, though.

Has uAvionix announced an AV-30C with magnetometer?

So it wasn’t designed in a manner that everyone is comfortable with it. That design choice wasn’t hidden. You’re making my point. No one had to buy it.

Is it the dumbest thing I've ever done....

The 206 is a great plane and this one sounds like a great example of a great plane. You will 100% do something dumber than this in the future, so give yourself a break.

Has uAvionix announced an AV-30C with magnetometer?

I don’t understand this comment. The guy was saying if there was a market willing to pay, they’d certify, but there isn’t. The market demanding something has to be big enough to justify spending money to certify something. Otherwise we would be complaining that they want Garmin prices for...

    Early Morning at the office

Very cool. Pretty sure that gig is the same one my old CFI used to do. He used to tell me about getting a ton of hours in a bonanza flying doctors around to small airports in the state (from McKinney). I think he still fills in sometimes.

    Do I Need a Tug for a 182RG?

I have a 182RG and a slight incline into my hangar. Full tanks (88 gallons) makes it a challenge, especially if that right main gets in the dip in the hangar floor. I know a guy who uses a tug with an easier push than me, so I’d say it will definitely depend on your hangar and how much you are...

ADS-B Out and Passive Radar Homing Missile

This was my thought. No STC needed for a portable. Just open the window and shoot those flares by hand!
